i own both of these and i gotta say, if i had to choose one, i'd probably pick the rs3 4 out of 5 times

if we're talking about looks, interior, comfort, and powertrain then the rs3 just makes more sense

but i now own the g87 m2 and it's miles above how the rs3 handles, both are amazing cars really

That's my point, it's has a completely different engine with a completely different power band and should have a properly paired MT IMO. On paper I don't like that, but I get your point, I need to drive it before I come to any conclusions.

People get too hung up on track times especially when that list ranges in varying track conditions, its essentially a pretty useless list.

I think the most stunning takeaway from video was how fast the M5 CS was. A large four door sedan outpacing dedicated sports cars…amazing. I want one. I know I’m in the wrong forum though, so carry on. Blah blah I hate it when reviewers are subjective blah blah except when they agree with me etc etc

its like: Michael Schumacher was able to make of his Ferrari the fastest car in F1 even when the rivals' Mclaren was the best F1 car performance wise among all other for those related seasons.

Might be a bit of butt hurt in there but also might just prefer the outgoing model for various reasons - Reasons that Camisa, savagegeese, other reviewers and even averages joe schmoes share.

The G87 has better stats… as it should. Being objectively inferior on paper wouldn’t make sense for a newer model now would it?

What people need to understand is better stats isn’t going to convince people to like a car. People are entitled to value different criteria.

i haven't seen any European reviews that weren't done with the reviewer flying to America.

I'm guessing Harris just hasn't gotten his hands on one yet and didn't want to come to America just to drive it (or couldn't due to scheduling or something.)

Strong disagree from me. I get the transmission not matching the car, or having it "cause" lag like it is here. But personally for me, it's about NOT being annoyed by a torque converter/auto more than it is about the experience of driving a manual in that kind of situation. I'm still thankful for a manual, sub-par or not.

Modular platforms will do that. The 3/4 series on the CLAR platform is fat, and the 2 series is just a scaled down 3/4 so it gets the same fat platform. The RS3 is essentially a hopped up Golf R which is MQB, a platform in an entirely different (and smaller) class than the 3/4's adaptation of CLAR.

RS3 also has more rear leg room and headroom than the M2 and M4

Saw the video and when they finally gave their “verdict” I could not stop laughing. I owned the RS 3 last year, kept it 4 months and sold it right away. Took it just because my girlfriend was complaining about the weekend trips with the Lotus 😂 Anyhow, the car felt so soulles to me, that I never really fell in love with it. The drift mode is so fake, that it can get quite dangerous if you don’t have the right amount of space available. The turbo lag is also tremendous. Quality overall is average, similar to my A4 company car: hard plastics, silly gear nob, small paddles. Nothing special. I was also annoyed by the fact that the rear tires are thinner than the front tires: from behind it looked quite off. So overall I have no clue how someone would choose the RS 3 over an M2, maybe just a biased opinion 😁 Happy I sold it (and didn’t loose any money) and cannot wait to get my M2 😎

yes. For example, I don’t want to fly backwards into the woods off the dragon (cause I’m not full of skills)

My current street/track car is the SS1LE and the M2 is on order waiting allocation. I was hoping the M2 on similar tires would be a bit faster (1 sec on a ~1min lap), but they are essentially tied at their track.

Given the M2 is posting substantially faster 1/4 mile (so likely a lot more power) times than the 1LE, must be losing time in the corners.

Overall still psyched to see what it can do on the tracks I drive.

P.S. I thought it would be faster than the M2CS (more tire, S58, better front end). A bit disappointed it was not.

Just as well.

From my understanding the PS4S BMW * spec on the G8X is more sticky than the vanilla PS4S and the opposite is the case with the Cup 2 BMW * spec - less stick than the vanilla Cup 2s. I think the * PS4S to *Cup 2 difference is not that great. Am I wrong?

Just to show you what tires can do for a lap time. During C&D Lightning Lap. C&D ran the RS3 with standard Pirelli Pzero PZ4 and the optional Pirelli Trofeo R.

Around VIR the RS3 with Trofeo R did a 2:52.5, more than 13 seconds quicker than the on PZ4s(3:01.9).
Trofeo R is more like a Cup 2 R equivalent - it is in a different solar system vs PZ4. (see my comment above - I may be wrong, but I think * PS4S vs * Cup 2 is much closer)

Keep in mind that the F87C measured was on stock tires and 6mt. With wider/stickier tires and the DCT, I can’t imagine the G87 has much of a lead, if any.

I can confirm this as I got the 763s with Cup 2s (240) and I can certainly feel the difference.

I also got caught in a heavy downpour on a cold day and even though they were better than the 180s still not recommended...
