"Super Sedan" Showdown - M5 CP, E63-S, RS7, XFR-S, Panamera Turbo
Road & Track conducted a "super sedan" showdown with the BMW M5 Competition Package, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG-S (4MATIC), Audi RS7, Jaguar XFR-S, and Porsche Panamera Turbo.
The M5 (0-60 in 3.8 seconds; 1/4 mile in 12.0 @ 122.3 mph) just edged out the E63 (0-60 in 3.2 seconds; 1/4 mile in 11.5 @ 123.1) by 2 points. The M5 and E63 finished 1 and 2, respectively. Some amazing acceleration numbers for heavy luxury sedans. Hell, the E63-S is 6 tenths away from being 10-second car, stock. Yeah but you know many people that buy these cars to drag race in . Once again BMW wins cause its well rounder. Where Mercedes is alway more Luxurious and has a bigger engine.

You don't buy a 4,000 lb+ luxury sedan as a dedicated track/road course car either. The M5 didn't necessarily clobber the E63, winning by 2 points . . .

The cars are so close in this segment. They all are perfect performance saloons. For daily driving, I would choose one of the awd options.
Oh and the RS7 deserved a 5 for interior. Sat in one the other day, the interior is absolute perfection. |

Did you read the article? The E63 was praised for its predictable neutral handling whereas the M5 was diffucult to control. They couldn't keep up with the E63 on a backroad in the M5 because the M5 wouldn't stop going sideways. They weren't overly fond of the over sprung and under dampened suspension on the M5.

Don't give me wrong, I love both, but I always give credit where credit is due. I don't get it. They said the E63 was the better handling car, for several reasons. It was also faster in a straight line. I can understand (especially by now) that you prefer BMW but I think you underestimate how good the competition is getting, especially from Affalterbach.

The M5 should win on looks alone. It is a seriously gorgeous car. Too bad I'll never own one... :'(

Not that the others are cheap, but they are below that range by about $40-50,000.
