Turbo Leak, Decreased Power, It Happened, What Now?
I guess I’ve been kind of a lame duck F82 owner. I have had my car for almost a year with a little less than 4,000 miles on it and haven't had a single issue. I was one of the early production people of last year (week 24/June 6th 2014) so I’ve braced myself for early production woes.
While driving today, I decided to give the car a little stick (Sport Plus Everything). As it pulled and almost simultaneously, the power was decreased significantly and the engine whistle from the turbos was much louder. I think the charge pipes/turbo pipes literally blow off from the pressure. I think this is the clamp issue many people had in the past. When I left my destination, the engine light was on and the idle was weird as the car was misfiring; I thought the car was going to car into limp mode. However, after the initial 5-10 seconds after start up I drove the car home slowly in automatic and in efficient mode. I decided to give it a little stick with the sport displays showing me the power of the car and it wouldn’t go past 240hp/torq. Does this sound similar to what some of you have experienced and how quick/easy is the fix? I was debating on fixing it myself but can’t find a DIY and don’t really know where the loose clamps are at. I hate dealers and I’m going to have withdrawals lol. |

If it is just a clamp issue it is fairly simple to fix, no need to take it to the dealership and waste ur time. Check the clamps on the piping to the intercooler, you will see right away if that is the problem. If the clamps are good, you might have a blown/cracked charge pipe leading to the intercooler. You can figure it out if there is a boost leak, doesn't take a rocket scientist. Do this and let us know what the problem is.

Good to see you around still too lol, you have come a long away since your first thread on her lol. A little over a year and 8,000 + posts later.
I'm going to give it a diagnosis, I think I cracked the charge pipe cause the clamps are still on. |

I remember our color thread. It sealed mine for me. All in all, I am happy to recognize us from a year back, still being us. Get it to a shop Ryder!

Inspected the car. Clamps are on fine. Charge pipes look fine but most likely one is cracked. I can't see where but I def hear the turbos spinning when I give it a little revs. This sucks. I thought I'd be one of those few people w/ an immortal M car. Maybe next time. |

Hornet was just too cool as a name, and an unlucky one too. Now I get in every meet one nice guy blushing while they explain to me what Peter can mean too, and I get to act shocked every time. "you mean I named my car ...?!" "do you think everybody else knows too?!" Immortal cars stay parked. You don't want one of those. Keep us posted and good to see you around!

True, she made these more difficult. Peter might be a man, but he sure is pretty as a girl.

We, the F8x owners are not known of being the most skilled installers of all generations. Even duct tape is better off left to the pros.
