What functionality of the car/displays do you lose going clone and ECUtek?

Tempting to just do piggyback,JB4 or Dinan for a warranty for a couple of years and see if tuning ease improves for s58. 600 whp on these cars with out DRs or slicks probably isn’t that fun traction wise anyway unless you’re into drifting 😀
I haven't lost anything. I've actually been driving the car around on a stock map Visconti made for me until the car goes into the shop next Saturday. It's exactly the same as it was before I swapped the DME, except now the ECU Connect app connects to the car.

Actually wait I lied. Remote start doesn't work anymore. That's the price I paid.

I chose BM3 over MHD. I haven't used both so I can't speak to one better than the other etc. However the things that I liked about the BM3 is that the user interface seemed pretty intuitive, and it would automatically adjust the tune based on the ethanol content (if using a ethanol sensor) instead of installing, say, and e40 tune and trying to get your fuel mix to exactly e40. What I don't like about the BM3 is the map changing feature. It is pretty useless because it allows you to change your tune from 91 to AC91, to 93, which I have no idea why you would need this unless you are driving across the country. I thought it would allow you to change from stage 1, stage 2, CSL etc. or you could put different stage 2 tunes in with different burble tunes etc. Supposedly, if you get a custom tuner to tune your car they can customize the map slots but I don't know why BM3 didn't allow that from the beginning.

Anyway, with that said, I am on a stage 2 OTS tune and it is gobs of power. I know I could get a few more horsepower from a custom tune but TBH, I am not sure how usable it would be on the track. As of right now I am questioning if the stage 2 OTS will be manageable on the track.

It’s coming, sure, we see US as our main potential market. However, we do not set any availability deadlines. So if you were planning to send ECU to femto - just do it, dont wanna hold you down guys with some blank promises.”

My main concern isn’t shipping the ECU or warranty, etc. it’s losing functionality of the car after not accepting updates for X amount of years. Like will my screen still turn on? Cameras work, recalls, etc. it’s almost like you would have to plan on occasionally accepting updates, having ECU get locked and then unlocking again. I’ve had my car just over a year and been a bunch of updates. Some are probably totally unnecessary but I think the new one is for a CEL for oil pressure and you would want to accept that.

People have been talking about a US company doing it for a while (before the G generation)...and Nada. If one did come along, I certainly wouldn't be quick to turn to them, either. Femto has been doing it for years and they know 100% what they are doing.

You do realize thousand and thousands have unlocked their ECUs over the years, and the cars all run fine without piddly and most likely senseless software updates. I have been unlocked since December 2023...car is not lacking for not having any updates.

I am not trying to force something on you, just providing information. From your responses, your hesitancy is your answer, its probably not for you (and it sounds like adding real additioal power is not your first concern). That's your decision and I wouldn't fault you for it nor should anyone else.

No, I’m in😀. Modding is for me. I’ve had modified Subarus for almost 20 years and my current STi is like 500 whp on E85. Just new to the BMW/S58 and trying to sort it out.

No, never been to Lilith Fair but I get your reference and BMW owners stereotype are probably worse lol! 2007 STi, 2011 STi, 2020 STi and I have a fleet car 23 Forester. I planned to sell my STi when I got the g87 but hard to let go. Lots of $$ into it, Hydraulic Steering, great shifter and transmission, AWD, geared for the street, faster than my G87. My M2 needs more power that’s why I’m here. Sorry OT.

Oh yeah, BMW owners have all kinds of stereotypes and even more so for M car drivers.

Love the wheels and breaks on your car
Very nice color scheme

2) No, you have way more top end power and it pulls harder up top. YMMV, I've never used an OTS map.

3) yes you should always do logs periodically. Fuel quality can vary and you want to make sure everything is good.

4) yes you should at least have high flow can downpipes for a stage 2 map

5) not sure, but generally they market bhp

Just FYI, BM3 is miles behind MHD+ at this point. Their Rev2 board might bring them up to speed, but that was supposed to be released Q3 last year. I had BM3 last time and was so unhappy I spent over $7k to get my car on ECUtek this time.

Also worth noting, MHD flashes maps way faster than anything else. Their dongle also works well. The BM3 dongle sucks.

I would actually run a laptop connected to the car to log. I couldn't use the phone app because the connection was so unreliable.

Before you make a decision I'd wait until a few more people chime in. Myself and people that I talk to are all moving away from BM3 to MhD+ or for us of us who are totally insane, to ECUtek.

Here's an example of a problem I had with BM3. When using PI it only communicated one way. When I'd floor it with TC on, the car would spin, TC would kick on and close the throttle, but because it only communicated one way, the car kept spraying fuel which throws the car into limp mode for running too rich. I could not floor it in that car without going into limp mode with TC on. As per Botti this is a limitation of BM3.

MHD+ solved that issue. It was never a problem with ECUtek.
It sounds like you’ve been duped out of $7k..

And you are recommending something you have not personally used yourself ????
Great advice !!!

I had Bootmod3 on my 2020 M340i with Port injection+ Pure 850 Turbos and never had a single issue. Paul Johnson tuned my car and we were using Reflex for PI and ECA.
Looks like you had a bad tune or something, and then some tuner that you reached out to told you he could fix it , but they only tune on Ecutek….. oh yeah, I forgot to mention Botti originally tuned my M340i on Ecutek but I was not happy with the Ecutek Platform or the tune, so then I decided to ditch Ecutek and go with Bootmod3 and Paul.
Car ran Flawless with the Upgraded turbo on Port injection ..… even with Traction On….

What you experienced has nothing to do with the BM3 Platform. Do you think your the only person running port injection that floors the car with Traction control on ?
That makes Zero sense…

That’s a wild way to enter a thread bro

I don’t understand why you’re coming at Ron, he’s not shiting on BM3 he just prefers MHD.
From what I’ve seen it’s like a 50/50 split out there on what people think is the best platform.
Pros and cons to both based on what your goals are

And I have been doing research. This forum, some other forums, YouTube, tuners blogs, etc. This thread is part of my research.

I'm not responding to him. If he took a few minutes to do some research he'd see I'm on my second G87 after a G42 all of which have been modified. He can fanboy BM3. Honestly I do hope it works with Rev2. The good thing about getting "duped" out of $7k is that I can switch if I want.
