325 performance question

Now guys don't get me wrong. I don't intend to race or anything like that. I have ordered a 325 and I think I made the right decision and it should be here within a week.

My question is everyone here talks about oh e90 took down G35, e90 did this, e90 did that.. now what can 325i take down.. just would want to know in reality where 325 stands...any real life experiences will be appreciated.

I can say from experience that you can take down even the most aggressive Toyota Echo driver!

I got my 325i a couple of months ago, I also don't intend to race. It drives great and has power even at low RPM. It can accelerate rapidly from any speed whether it is 20MPH or 80MPH.

Going on highways at 60MPH, and just a little bit of gas and you will hit 100MPH before you know it. Very good handling and the drive gets better as it gets faster.

No regrets on buying a 325i

I just to 325 or even 330. Great car :rocks:

That's harsh.

The 325 has nearly the power of the outgoing 330, and many reviewers have said it has better performance.

Obviously the e90 330 is a step up again

It was supposed to be a dig on Toyota Echo drivers, who seem to want to race me on the highway. It just happened 2 nights ago and one other time before that. I don't think that the Echo is supposed to be a fast car, but for some reason it has become a "boy-racer."

Probably the Echo driver got its energy by just looking at your sexy and hot BMW

Ohh, your 325 can take down plenty of things:

Pedestrians.
Roadsigns.
Shoddily installed traffic control devices.
Animals with low situational awareness.
Mailboxes.
Drive through coffee stands (not the full shop, that is for X5 owners).
Farmers markets (only if you are over 65).
Small south American dictatorships.

In a straight line, the car's performance is very good but it's not a racing sedan.

Although it has great off the mark performance, I have not and probably will not race anyone on our crowded public roads, even when empty. Too dangerous, too many cops with radars and it doesn't mean very much at all.

Now once you have broken the engine in good and proper, take it up and down the mountains and on cross country hairpin and sweeping curves etc. Now there is where it really shines. There it will take on almost any competitor in its class and higher.

Its an overall sports sedan with poise and precision.

To take on most other cars you should seriously consider the M range.

You will also ve very happy with your 325. I certainly am.

All the best.

havnt had a lot of experience yet but im guessing that the 325 can give any car in its class a good run for its money. audi a4 (even the 2.0T), the is250 when it comes out, passats, jettas, accord v6, acura tl, etc. not all of those cars are in its class but you get the idea.

How about my former ride, 2001 BMW 530? The 325 has about the same hp, more torque, and the car weighs less. And it cost a lot less. My son is getting a 325.

Can't speak from experience 'cause I have a 330 but, I think cory1000 might have some insight into this question....cory, you reading this?

Send him a pm, I'm sure you'll get a very good answer.

It pips the 2.0T - 147KW versus 160KW for the 325. The Audi has more torque though 280Nm vs 250Nm.

Audi quote the 6sp man A4 2.0T quattro at 7.2s 0-100Km/H (the front wheel drive 7.3s), while BMW claim 7.1s for the 325i 0-100 (2.5l engine version).

I guess it would be down to differences between the drivers at 0.1s difference, and given the torque advantage, in-gear acceleration should be better in the A4.

But looking at it another way, the BM has better handling and IMO a better gear shift action.

I will say this though, I drove both cars, and while they are both great cars, and the BM felt faster and more agile, hence it got my sales order.

I havent lost to anyone yet...im not saying that other cars have not pulled away from me off the start...but its all about who has more balls... some people only want to "race" until they hit 60..some til 100...but me, I like to go until the car wont go anymore... I am happy with the power of the 325i... Only sugguestion I would make is to get the sprt package... With no top speed limit on it you can go in 6th gear until about 7.5... which is over 160mph... not to many cars are going to keep up with you then...

You can pass normal traffic all day long, however you will not win any red-light races.

If that's your goal get a Camaro.

Personally, I prefer buzzing the bitchin' Camaro on sweeping Interstate turns at 85mph.

Ok... Well I've owned two ///M Roadsters, 3 e46s... Currently drive a 325i 6-Speed, Sport Pkg and P. Boxster, waiting on e90 M3/Cayman S... Driven 996 Turbo, Gen1 Viper, G35 Coupe, e46 M3, 996 C2, e90 330i, 385hp Z06... etc... Turbo/Viper/Z06 and FAST... Didn't like G35, M3 is very quick...

Driven 330i Step and 6-Speed... It's pretty quick, feels powerful in both configs... The power advantage is noticable compared to the 325i, but it is not dramatic... I can generally say a car is slower when I step into it from another car and feel as though nothing is happening when I step on the gas... This is the case form Turbo/Viper to e46 325i... With 4 people in the 325i, it begins to feel a little sluggish, but that is the case was any car when you get used to driving it with 1 or 2 people... I hit 200 km/h pretty quick in the 325i and it pulls nicely from 100 km/h and up... I had an e60 520i 6-Speed (2.2l 6-cyl) when I was in Germany on the Autobahn, with 4 people, now that was slow...

...

It's true-the only time I wished that I got the 330i was when I had 3 fat guys in the car. It is very sensitive to weight. With just me in it, the car has plenty balls.

A few weeks ago, I test drove an 05' e46 330i coupe with steptronic and 10,000 miles on it at a dealership, and the power felt about the same as my '06 325- except the e90's steptronic seemed far more responsive (less shift lag)
