Broke my pinky toe, how long until I can start exercisings/running again?
My main exercise regiments are lifting weights and running. I just broke my pinky toe and tried to run on it this morning but it was too painful.
Anyone had this happen to them? How long until you could run on it or do any other kind of running type sport (basketball, tennis, etc.)? |

Dunno, but as a swimmer I'd recommend giving swimming a try in the mean time. If you can swim without pain you'll be able to maintain - and perhaps increase - your fitness level in the mean time. Talk to your doctor.
EDIT: If you have a cast, ignore the above. |

My co-worker just broke her pinky toe too, and she had a boot on it for a month after surgery. She's still not recommended to exercise or anything, and it's probably been 1.5-2 months now. Then again though, her toe was literally perpendicular to her foot when she broke it

If your young and healthy, bones usually take about 6-8 weeks to heal. Although the pinky toe is on the foot and it does take some amount of weight bearing. So it may take longer.
In the meantime you should wear an orthopedic shoe, which does not allow you to plantar flex your foot. So no sports activities until it heals. Even better is to be on crutches but that may be overkill for a broken 5th toe. Its always a good idea to consult with an orthopedist though as abnormal bone healing has known to occur. Good luck. |

I broke mine last year. It took about 6 weeks before I could walk without pain. I still get a pain here and there from it. Not much you can do with a broken toe so you just need to wait it out.

If the bottom half of your body can't exercise, just smash on dumb bells and work on your chest, shoulders, back, arms.
