BMW Warranty & Engine Tuning Documentation

I had some time this morning, so I finally downloaded the warranty booklet for my new G87 M2 (although the booklet applies to MANY different vehicles). Page 8 and 9 do an excellent job addressing all the questions I frequently see out here for "will a tuning kit void my warranty."

Obviously there are lots of thoughts, and people with actual experience, but I thought it might be helpful for people to read the documentation in BMW's warranty booklet. Attached is the full PDF, but here is the excerpt that is pertinent to the common questions I see.

My intent is not to advocate one way or another, but to simply supply information (facts), so people can make their own decisions.

"VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS / ALTERATIONS AND
ENGINE PERFORMANCE TUNING —VOIDING OF
WARRANTY
Modification of BMW vehicles and/or the installation/attachment
of any non-BMW approved performance accessories
and/or components to the vehicle that alters the original engineering,
and/or operating specifications, and/or that results
in damage to the original and other vehicle components voids
the warranty coverage on the affected original Drivetrain and
Emission Control components.

In general terms, the BMW limited warranty for Drivetrain and
Emission Control-related components is void due to modification
where that modification, alteration, or installation of a non-
BMW approved aftermarket part is responsible for the failure.
Aftermarket “Engine Performance Tuning” kits will cause damage
to your vehicle and are expressly forbidden. These tuning
kits alter the factory installed software and are known to cause
excessive wear and tear on your vehicle.

Additionally, excessive turbocharger boost increases the
engine’s temperatures, resulting in pressures and forces which
may cause internal engine component, or assembly damage,
and/or premature turbocharger failure(s). Excessive engine loads
above those originally intended by the factory will also compromise
the long-term reliability and longevity of the engine
and the other related drivetrain/suspension components.

No aftermarket “Engine Performance Tuning” kit has been
certified by the appropriate federal and state authorities (EPA/
CARB) to meet street-legal emission requirements. BMW vehicles
equipped with such performance enhancement devices"

I wonder if this would apply to oil cooler guards. It could be implied in the first paragraph.

This applies to all parts; if they damage the stock component, the repair is not covered under warranty, which makes perfect sense.

When it comes to the oil cooler guard, I can't imagine a scenario where it would damage any part, so I dont see how it's a risk warranty-wise.
