Nvidia is the only choice for top performance. ATI is horrible and doesn't even try to compete on high-end cards.

It's just like everything in computers, one company goes up, the other goes down, then they flip flop back and forth. Right now NVIDIA is on it's way out it looks like from being at the top, ATI is mounting a strong push against them, but right now, the best card for the value in my opinion is the NVIDIA 8800GT. It's a very good card an will handle most of what you use it for, unless you're an extreme gamer playing all the latest games and wan't full quality. If so you will either way to SLI 2 togther like GME said, or just step up to a higher model.

Nvidia has a shitload of problems with their drivers... im a die hard ATI fan, but im not biased. i have used equally as much of both, and ill tell u that Nvidia has caused my comp to crash continually with the BSOD. the issues with the BSOD are 90% related to to Nvidia computers... their graphics cards a great... but ATI does it just as well, minus the errors.
ATI ftmfw!

This man is utterly and completely wrong. ATI can't even hope to approach Nvidia's current performance numbers. I've never had a problem with crashing either, blame Vista for that, XP and Nvidia drivers are solid as a rock.

And you're only kidding yourself if you think nvidia's drivers are rock solid. Their Vista drivers have been horrible (trust me, I have an nvidia card), and it's been proven that they create more crashes in Vista than the OS or any other driver. Edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm still suggesting an nvidia card for most people right now, but I can see that ATI is working to get back up there. |

Nvidia FTW - grab the 9800 GTXs at $300 in SLi - if not, wait this summer for the next gen cards - probably the 9900s if I'm not mistaken - it's that "leap" in GPU architecture - from speculation.
Either way, Nvidia is the right way to go. |
