There is 1 other M240i for sale in the Twin Cities area and it's priced at $42K, and the car has similar miles and features. I'm priced at $40K and would wiggle down a little bit. Doing a nation wide search on Auto Trader the prices for my car range from $32K up to $49K.

Whatever happens either way I will be driving an awesome 2 series! Looking forward to seeing more allocation updates on here and continued jealousy from the folks who are getting their G series M2.

I don’t doubt that you can sell your car. I just think the mods need to come off for it to be easier for everyone involved.

Flash the ECU back. Leave the M performance exhaust and differential. Return everything else to stock. The Apex wheels/tires you should be able to sell easily on the side. Most buyers don’t want heavily modified vehicles.

Yeah, I’ve never really aftermarket modded a car and for partly this reason.

I know for BMW Motorrad even with tasteful OEM accessories added by a dealer (with the exception of a Certified Dealer tune with Akro Headers & Exhaust) doesn’t do anything for increasing the resale which is why I always include the original parts as part of the sale.

Maybe modify your listing to reflect that and even give the option to revert before sale.

Best of luck on your sale.

I’ve lately found that BAT is not agreeing to list cars with Reserves attached as much as in the past few years. My hunch is that it’s due to a glut of cars and the continued trend of declining secondary values.

See what carmax/vroom and such offers too. I don't know what the market is like today, but a year ago they were way over paying for cars (which means they probably aren't anymore haha).
This is why I am trying to get as many upgrades as possible on the window sticker, then I might just do an intake/downpipe. Although I plan to never sell this car, I just don't want any hurdles if I absolutely needed to.

why not trade it in? do you have sales tax credit in MN? i'd get a trade # from your dealer. The second set of wheels will add $0 to your resale value. Mods will subtract value to most people that would be buying a $40K+ car private party. If you don't have the title in hand free and clear, you're further cutting your buyer pool in half, or less.

In many cases, it just doesn't make sense to sell privately in states where you have sales tax credit (and the dealer isn't trying to rake you over the coals).

Trade in quotes are brutally low. I'm not aware of any credits with selling/buying a car. What's that about?

He is stating that if you trade in a car that the dealer gives you $40k, then you take the m2 price such as $70 and subtract out the $40k to just end up paying tax on the $30k.

I got a great quote from vroom for my supra, but the m2 is still 2 months out so I can’t be without a car until then

As of two weeks ago…build is complete and in process for shipping. I’ve been told that here in Germany my dealership cannot release it to me until 12 June, regardless if when I arrives.

I will inquire on that but I think in MN we are stuck with paying the sales tax on the total sales price prior to deducting out cash from a trade in or down payment. If I could that would be nearly a $3K tax break. Thanks!

Ok. I haven't traded in a car in about 15 years so don't recall. This makes that option more appealing.

That doesn’t sound legal, I would definitely check further on that. If you’re trading into the selling dealer it should absolutely come out of the total, thereby lowering your taxable purchase price.

One more point of clarity on this: does a cash down payment also lower the dollar amount taxed, or only the trade in value?

For those that have traded in your OG F87, what kind of values are dealers offering (if you don't mind sharing?)

For those with more knowledge than I, what month do the allocations switch over from MY23 to MY24 with the new colors available?
