Arrow Took the M2 to Road Atlanta

I went to RA over the weekend with the M2 and had a great time, first time on this track and first time tracking the M2.

The car was a monster and was perfectly suited for this kind of course. My best of the day was a 1:39. With more practice I think it could easily be in the mid 1:30's.

Averaging 5.9MPG on track means you need to refill every 30 laps or so.

Of note, on the highway I was able to get an easy 28MPG at 78MPH average which means you can easily go 350 miles on a tank.

Nice Pics! Looks like a fast course too!

Very cool! RA is a great track. I think you mind find, however, that getting from a 39 to mid 30s is rather ambitious. I'd shoot for 38s and maybe 37s and then see how it goes! Mid 30s is booking it at RA!

Those speeds! 130mph felt quite floaty to me, I cannot imagine 150...but this car just doesn't stop pulling. Thanks for sharing.

Looked awesome! It used to be my home track. 160MPH on the back straight is impressive...

Is the car (tune/suspension) completely stock? Which brake pads/fluid were you running? TIA!

That thing hauls the mail! You were exiting T5 10 mph slower than my M3 (E36 S54) but were going about 14 mph faster at the braking point for T6.

Yes fully 100% stock. Tires are the Pirellis which are scary when cold!

I realized after I got home and watched my lap videos I was leaving tons of room on track not hitting apexes correctly. This mainly stems from learning the track and having confidence over blind hills etc. I was starting to get that confidence towards the end of the day. Can't wait until next time!

Two weekends ago I was there.

Carrying speed out of 10b over the hill under the bridge takes time, most of my first day was wet and the concrete patch was not fun.

Solid driving, first time in a car or first time at a track getting home with the car in one piece is the main objective, having fun 2nd, going fast 3rd

No kidding. My mind kept pondering how fast peak speeds would have been on the original back straight (i.e. my time at RA was all 1980-1983) where you got to use the steep uphill to the bridge to dramatically help braking too. The bridge turn was pretty cool on the old layout too with the apex right under the bridge and track out way over into the pit entry lane as you plummet downhill (no inside pit existed back then...it was a motocross track instead).

The G87 is an absolute beast of a car. I spent time on the PC course a few weeks ago with one, and loved the car.

OP: what brake pads were you using? Also what level (if any) of traction control?

All stock brakes. M traction set to level 5.

That old track layout was crazy, I heard they changed it due to too many crashes.

TopherHax: Great lap at Road Atlanta! You said "Tires are the Pirellis which are scary when cold!" What Pirellis? I also have a fully stock 2023 G87 (but with the M6 tranny) and the PS4S tires that came on the car. I will run the car at RA in a couple of weeks. Wondering if you had stickier rubber than the OE tires will be running? Or does BMW fit the G87 stock also with Pirellis? TIA! Just curious. TIA!

Some M2s get Pirellis, others Michelins. It's a bit of a lottery.
