Buena Park BMW (Orange County) suggested 2+ yr lead times on new M2’s and a $10k markup. Meanwhile my guy (Ivan) at Crevier reconfirmed today that’s BS. Don’t pay unnecessary markups!

Lead time is a completely different metric from how many people are on the list ahead of you. Lol. Most dealerships are 20+ people deep and are getting 2-3 allocations per month. You’re late to the party if you’re trying to get an M2 now.

I called a local dealer in Houston about putting my name on a waitlist, and the salesperson over the phone was bragging about how she sold their first M2 with a $5k markup. Dealerships aren't your friends.

Any dealer can say the wait line is X long to try and justify markup. When a neighboring dealer (we’re talking less than 15 minutes away) suggests otherwise, it’s highly suspicious.

As I mentioned, though, some are for it. So it's not a "problem". It's free market.

Some are against it. Luckily, some dealers do not charge it. So those that are against it can go with those dealers and give them their business.

I am lucky this doesn't exist in Canada with BMW/VW/Porsche (not sure about Ford/GM/Dodge).

As Ravenseal stated, lines in dealers are different. Some folks on coasts go buy cars in the middle of the country because the wait is shorter.

It could be that:

a- this dealer has a longer waiting queue than the other one
b- that the other dealer didn't reveal how long the waiting queue is and just estimated it based on recent deliveries
c- the dealer with the short estimate is lying too and just wants your deposit and will later tell you it will take longer
d- no one is lying and all are being upfront about things, and you can pick your dealer based on your desires (waiting, or getting it now for a higher price)

Lol, semantics. I fully understand it and they’re not exclusive. Lead time is considered delivery time from the time of order in the manufacturing world (which I’ve managed for almost 30 years). Of course i fully understand allocations and waitlists that precede the build order and delivery time, but the total time can be still estimated such as telling me I’m going to wait two plus f******g years on a mexico made mass produced car if I want one. Yeah, right.

We have an allocation every month for M2. It is not 2 years. If you get an allocation in August you will get your M2 in 2.5 months. I work for Irvine BMW. Yuri

I dont know about 2.5 months from allocation to delivery. There are a boatload (no pun intended) of M2s down yonder that may be holding up/delaying all future deliveries.

I got an order a week ago. Production is already started. We will get a car here at the end of Sep
