Brembo 380mm BBK and 18" Track Wheel Options
Hi guys,
One of the first things I said when I found out from our rep at Race Technologies that Brembo would only be doing a 15" all around on the E92 M3 was, "What about the guys that track their car and don't want to have to sell a kidney to pay for 19" R-compound tires"?. There are quite a few wheels with clearance for the spokes. The problem is the inside diameter of the barrel. Well, I've been doing research for a few weeks and i have some options I know will work. Here is of 18" wheels I have either test-fitted myself or confirmed with the manufacturer will work.
I will be advertising wheel/tire packages in the for sale section soon. Please PM if you'd like a personalized quote. Bob The yellow time attack stripes are vinyl stickers. I had yellow AP Racing brakes on my old E46 M3. Close-up of the front of the car Clearance in the rear is no problem at all. Note: I used blue painter's tape to protect the finish of the caliper while I was test-fitting the wheel. There is somewhere between 5 and 10mm of clearance between the bridge of the caliper and the barrel. Race Technologies has confirmed that 5mm of clearance is fine. Close-up of the bridge of the caliper Lower portion of the caliper clears with no problem, too Another pic of the bottom of the caliper Top of the caliper. it was too tight to pull the painter's tape off with the wheel on. It does give you an idea of how much clearance there is at that point. It's close, but it works.

Stock 18s Won't Work
Stock 18s won't work. The I.D. of the wheel is way too small, so it's not even close.

TE37 is a classic wheel at this point... far from hideous..
its good to know that there are 18s that will fit... if stock wheels would fit around the Brembo kit.. ide already have ordered a set from you Bob..... or if u could get some in this finish... ide hafta order them... |

Beauty is in the eye...
They are beautiful when you do some research and find out they are 10,000 ton die forged, weigh only about 16# to 18#, are easy to clean and don't cost $6,000. The TE37s are basically pounded into the final shape. The only cutting is between the spokes, so the grain structure of the metal of wheel is maintained, which makes them some of the strongest wheels made. Rays makes the Formula 1 wheels for the Williams team.
I love my HRE P40, but Voiks are great wheels, too. I loved my 19" TE37s in Mercury Silver on my old E46 M3, too. I DO admit I personally prefer the P40s on the E92 M3. Since I now know my 18" TE37s will work with my Brembos, I might have them refinished to match the gloss charcoal finish of my P40s. Bob

only problem with such tight clearances is that you wont even be able to fit wheel weights if you need some in the area where the caliper and wheel are closest... if you dont happen to need any, then youre lucky. otherwise its going to be a pain.

Bob@BPS,
Very nice! I've always liked the TE37. And that 18x9.5 size sound like the ticket for a nice set of track wheels. Any idea what the offsets are on the fitment that would work with the E9x M3? Also, is what you have mounted in the pics a staggered or a square set with/without spacers? Ideally, I'd like a square track setup 18x9.5 all around with offsets aggressive enough that they can be mounted at both the front & rear without needing spacers. Is that too much to ask? Oh, and in all black/matte finish. Now it's probably too much to ask.

Volk TE-37 Square Setup
Quote:
A square setup would be ideal to all rotation of the tires and maximizing tire use. The popular square Volk setup on the E46 M3 was 18x9.5" all around with 275/40-18s and a 10mm spacer in the rear. I think the offset was 30mm. Send me a PM if you'd like me to check on availability for you. Bob |
