G87 M2 weight reduction list - ongoing
I've compiled some possible weight saving measures. Please chime in for any additional info you have, and I'll update the list.
The reference G87 M2 is equipped CFRP roof, regular sport seats, manual transmission, HUD display and weighs 3758 lbs with 3/4 tank(with its full capacity at 52L), meaning 13L of petrol weight must be added, totaling 3779~ lbs with full tank. Tire difference is negligible between 18/19 and 19/20, so it is disregarded for this list. 275/35/19 PS4S 27lbs -> 275/40/18 27 lbs (diff. negligible) 285/30/20 PS4S 27lbs -> 285/35/19 27 lbs (diff. negligible) Engine bay -Carbon strut brace (Karbonius): -2.5kg (-5.5 lbs) -Carbon intake (Eventuri): ? Exterior -19/20 930M wheels: -0 lbs 9.5x19 ET20: 27.5lbs (front, cast) 10.5x20 ET20: 31 lbs (rear, cast) -18/19 824M wheels: -24.82 lbs 9.5x18 ET20: 21.6 lbs (front, forged) 10.5x19 ET20: 24.47 lbs (front, forged) -Apex VS-5RS forged square setup with 19 inch:-33.2 lbs 19"x11J ET22:~20.9lbs per corner -827M wheels: -18 lbs 9.5x19 ET:20: 24.5lbs each (front) 10.5x20 ET:20: 26lbs each (rear) Interior -Sport seats: -0 lbs Weight: 33 lbs per seat -Carbon seats: -22 lbs (-11 lbs per side vs. sport seats) Weight: 22 lbs per seat -Rear seat delete: -40~ lbs (based on F82 figures) Weight: 40~ lbs -Recaro bucket seats: -40.2 lbs (-20.1 lbs vs. sport seats) Weight: 12.9lbs per seat -OEM Battery: -0 lbs Weight: 57.7lbs -Lithiumnext(STREET105): -39 lbs Weight:18.7 lbs -HUD cockpit display Weight:? -Parking Assistant module Weight:? Exhaust -OEM exhaust Weight:? -M Performance exhaust Weight:? Notes -Wheels, carbon seats, and rear seat delete accounts for approx. 72 lbs of weight saving without going too crazy. -Considerable additional weight seems to come from the front of the car, so switching to aluminum/carbon strut braces may help.

My combined wheel and tire weight for front was: ~53lbs - 27.5 wheel, 26 tire My combined wheel and tire weight for rears was: ~58lbs - ~31 wheel, 27.4 tire Post installation of 827M wheels: my combined front was just under 50, and rear was ~53. One caveat, the tires were "dirty" from rain driving and had lots of gunk and rocks stuck to them. Once cleaned the weight dropped a bit but not significant. Overall I saved ~=18lbs of unsprung mass by switching. But again, it wasn't exact due to varying factors and cleanliness - the scale was accurate. Same caveats go for my car: after swapping the wheels it weighed 3744lbs, but only then did I realize I didnt think to remove all my own stuff, BMW manuals, booklets, trunk bag, water bottles, etc. After adding up that stuff to 8.9lbs, my car with 6mt and carbon roof with ~90% gas weighs ~3735lbs. My carbon mirrors made no difference and carbon lip spoiler made no difference. |

Are you switching to go to forged and because you like the looks or purely weight savings? If weight savings, they are a lot of better options (selections) with far greater weight savings by going aftermarket. |

It's your choice. There are lighter aftermarket options for about $500 more. BMW OEM forged 827M is a great value if you like the way they look. The lightest OEM option is 21.8 front 23.8 rear 963M.

I prefer the wheel and tire together as that's much more representative of everything on that corner. I tried to break it down piece by piece but even fingerprints have weight so everyone's mileage will vary. One thing is certain, the advertised weights of my 827M's are wrong. The stated spec is 23.8 front and 24.2 rear. Mine are actually like 24-24.5F, 24.5-25R. Different scales said different things but they appear to be just under 1lb heavier than advertised. Just thought I'd chime in here. Weighed my Manual, carbon roof, sport seat M2 with 98% full tank of gas and it was 3762lbs. Will be able to shave a lot off this car for sure!

Please share your options in detail so we know what's making the difference other than manufacturing variance.

Leaves us at 3703lbs battery would be roughly another 20, so already under 3700lbs. Not bad |

Titanium exhaust would save you more than the M Performance, about an additional 20lbs. Lithium battery is more than 20lb savings, too...about 40lbs in total. Rim savings would depend on what rims you go with (with good aftermarketforgedaluminum, should get a totalsavingsin the 35lb range). |

G87 hood is supposed to be aluminum but I found it very heavy. So probably a good 50 lbs saving from those additions.
