Why is a Porsche sometimes referred to as a "P-car"?

Does it make anyone else cringe at seeing people refer to Porsche's as "p cars"?

Maybe that can't pronounce Porsche correctly. From what I gather it mainly started when social media got big, you know everyone likes to shorten everything for typing/text.

First time I heard "P" car, I thought they were referring to something else! Turns out that Porsches are "P" cars after all, if you know what I mean.

I've heard it used here on the east coast for decades. Easier to type than the whole word, for me.

You guys must be living under a rock - the term has been used for years! It's like saying you've never hear BMWs referred to as Bimmers.

Same as those who refer to their M2/3/4/5/6 as a M car, or "the ///M". Pretentious as F. You took the effort to type out the 3 freaking stripes, and you can't even call your car by its name, which would have saved you 2 whole keystrokes.

I also tend to avoid typing out chassis codes. I absolutely know why people do it and how it removes any ambiguity, but to me it's just annoying as hell to read "E9x" or "F8x" all the damn time. Don't know why it triggers me so much, but I cringe when I read it so often.

I see it mostly on rennlist and ferrarichat. I guess its a short hand way for the uber rich to talk about cars.

"hey guys should I trade in the F or P car? I just got the .2 3RS last month and the salesman told me it should double its value in 6 months"

The ///M is pretentious and "'17 M3 Mineral White 6MT" is not? Really? Why not just M3? My wife and I refer to our cars as the Z or the M all the time - that is their name to us. Guess we are pretentious

Honestly, I thought it was common practice when joining the forums to describe what one drove, so when contributing to discussions, people knew your car better. But maybe that's what the sig is for. This is honestly my first forum that I became active on. It was never meant to be pretentious. I didn't realize it bothered people that much. I still cringe at the "6MT" a bit but I couldn't fit the word "manual", and just thought it might avoid ambiguity.

Relax man, it's just an opinion haha. Everyone can have one.
