No G87 M2 Competition but probably a G87 M2 CS in the works

Good article:

FYI, the article says rear drive only, not Xdrive. And possibility of a manual.

I don't have an opinion either way just stating what it says.

Look at the G80 CS. It WILL be an identical drivetrain.

G87 M2

In production until 07/29
G87 M2 Competition will indeed be called "M2 Competition".

A glimpse into what a G87 CS will offer.

WORLD PREMIERE: 2024 BMW M3 CS—543 HP, 0-60 in 3.2 Seconds https://www.bmwblog.com/2023/01/24/2...-m3-cs-543-hp/

“As expected, the M3 CS uses the same ZF eight-speed automatic transmission as the M4 CSL.” “However, unlike the M4 CSL, the M3 CS uses BMW M’s xDrive all-wheel drive system and limited-slip rear diff.” “Even with slightly less power and more weight, the BMW M3 CS might actually be quicker than the M4 CSL in a straight line, due to its added traction.”

I'll believe it when I see it. Regarding recent M cars this would be a first to skip the M2C and go straight to a CS or CSL. There's plenty of time for an M2C to come out well before any CS or CSL variants do and fully expect one to drop in the next year or so.

Does not mean every thing ynguldyn documented is set in stone, as the path forward for this model can change. I certainly hope popular opinion can have an impact on what we ultimately get. I think skipping a Comp model makes sense and make larger allocations available for CS models.

Hell. Maybe I’ll wait for a G87 M2C or G87 M2CS.

Saw an F87 M2CS for sale on Carvana this weekend. $85k.

But it was an Auto tranny 👎🏼

Or I could pass BMW altogether and get a used 718 GT4 for $50k over MSRP 🤔

The world is Stoopid rite now… 🫡

FYI,

I check the backend on the regular for any info on the G87 Competition or any other G87 variants. Anything new pops up, this forum will be the first to know.

He is rarely wrong.Sometimes he is and has to update his original info like when he said the N55 would continue on in the original M2 when the M2 Competition was released. He later revised this with the original M2 being replaced by the M2C.

They essentially bought one sport classic for the price of 2!! That’s a great deal!

Right, someone has more money than common sense.

This was actually discussed on the latest Spike’s Car Radio with Jerry Seinfeld.

It would make sense that they trim down their offerings as it's getting to be a lot and somewhat redundant... For instance, they should just have a G80/2 base and then xdrive comp. What's the need for a RWD comp auto? (especially when you can make the Xdrive be RWD via a mode)

Whenever I question why BMW does something like that, I start by asking what's the cost to have such an offer and how much money it will make them? So my guess would be it cost them nothing to offer it since they are already using the same RWD drivetrain for the base models so why not offer it for the Comps as it opens the door to more potential buyers who don't want xDrive for any number of reasons. They did the same thing with the M240i, it was only AWD and then they came out with a RWD model roughly 6mo later. The G42 is also only offered in AT.
