I think that’s what the M240i is for. Giving an aero package, power, ect while making it still feel special.

Hard to have entry level M car be so loaded with performance against end game M car (M8 as comparable) when it’s like $150k

a nice 340hp S48 engine would be lovely in the nose.

M could make a fantastic new 4 cil M engine. Like in the old days S14.

A nice small nimble rwd coupe drivers car. Lower price more fun in driving.A new entry level M car to get more youngsters to the M brand.
I've been saying for about a decade now, started with the F22 4 bangers, if they used the already light base of those cars and made a tuned up 4 pot M car or "is" car it would sell like mad. I think that would still hold if they could keep the weight down in the new car.

F22 along with any other Fxx chassis is now dead, too old to be competitive from a manufacturing and safety perspective. The only ICE RWD platform that BMW now has is CLAR. Z4 2.0 at 1450kg is the entry / minimum chassis that is on CLAR, it is unlikely there will be anything lighter, narrower or shorter as all the suspension and driveline hard points are fixed, with just a variation in the wheelbase possible.

Any boutique platform would likely be too costly to manufacture to both meet EU legislative requirements and find enough customers within the constraints of BMWs factories, supply lines and brand / customer expectations.

Yes, obviously. That's beside the point.

Seems to be the whole point to me. Fxx platforms won't meet the EU safety requirements for pedestrian and cyclist head protection that came into effect in July 2022, so no point in hoping for a derivative of the F22 platform in the BMW range.

It was never about a derivative of that platform. It's about the principle of creating something at a lower weight. But, okay.

Again, nothing BMW will produce that will fit that profile. There isn't a big enough market to justify a platform that doesn't fit the 3 platforms that they will have over the rest of this decade (Neue Klasse, UKL2 & CLAR).

Current legislation, consumer preferences and brand positioning preclude a smaller and lighter car at the right price point that can be sold in the right volumes to fit the production systems they have.

I can't see any other manufacturer producing a light, powerful, RWD, premium focused car as a direct competitor to the M2, either. You either need to drop 2 of the seats or go up substantially in price if you want similar performance in a lighter weight car.

Or go FWD, of course. BMW would gladly sell you a Mini, if weight is really your overriding concern.

i know what its like to reaffirm ur confirmation bias when a new model comes out, I did with my f80 comp.. then I realized the g80 is better in everyway. just the cycle with cars.. especially if the next gen is hybrid or full electric

It is going to be a shame if G87cs doesn't come with manual.

If the G87 platform is potent enough, I think the g87cs is going to be fine if it only gains 100lb more in weight compares to automatic F87cs.

As much as I hate the new M2/3/4 grill, but look at the e30 which is the car started the whole M thing, the squarish grill design somehow make more sense. (Having owned a f87 m2c, I would say f87c grill is too stylish sometimes it can be a little Gay, a front grill someone from Barbie would like lol)
