How does myBMW App communicate with the car?

question for the communicatiion between app and car:

I had my last BMW 3 years ago (idrive 6) and here the communication was slow sending commands.

Is this better with an G42 ?
will the commands be sent over SMS oder Bluetooth ?

Believe it’s both bluetooth (when in range) and cell connected. For example, I can unlock my ride in the car garage via my phone from my bed.

That's correct. You can view the cell phone number associated with your car if you go to the BMW Mygarage website -> Vehicle Profile.
