Misha Charoudin + AutoTopNL Review our G87 M2 'CSL' and G81 M3

With our G81 M3 Touring now at full 'Evolve CS' spec and our G87 M2 at full 'Evolve CSL' spec it was time to put them both to the test, and what better way to do that than to head to Germany!

We meet up with our friends Misha Charoudin and AutoTopNL who push the cars to their limits on the Nürburgring and the Autobahn to find out what they think of them both, and if there's anything else we can do to make them even better.

When their videos are released I'll link them below.

We had the opportunity to take our G81 M3 to the Nurburgring and let Misha do a hot lap.

Shorter wheelbase w/out aero can for sure be a little unsettling. Throw on some splitters, wings, and a set of forged wheels and that should make the G87 a bit more stable and enjoyable.
The G81 though is such an awesome car and I love the way yours looks. It's set up perfectly.

So the long wheelbase CS AWD vs short wheelbase CSL RWD? Interesting that the CSL g87 lost to the more tame CS spec touring. I suspect weight differences between the real CSL and the homemade one were a contributing factor. I’m curious if good old-fashioned Ohlins + camber plates on the G87 would’ve beat both of them.

The extra 100KG over an actual M4 CSL definitely isn’t helping.

On the road we’ve driven both back to back (lucky to also own an M4 CSL) and they feel pretty much identical. But obviously pushing hard on a circuit you start to notice things such as weight and aero.

The M2 is also 110mm shorter wheelbase than the M4, which will be a contributing factor also.

Looking forward to taking the car back with a few tweaks!

Imran@Evolve Mate you've got to work on your bracing skills! Looks like you got tossed around pretty good!

In all seriousness, having driven the 'Ring and been on track in an M5CS 'Ring Taxi....holding on is hard work. Looks like Misha gave you a good ride.

Question is which of the 2 do you prefer to drive? I’m biased towards the g81 for practicality purposes, and having seen this I’m even more convinced from a performance perspective as well.

As a daily one car do it all the G81 is amazing but the G87 is more "fun" in terms of feel. Just my personal opinion.

stage 1 flash to 600hp? very sus ... (or very amazing!)

anyway, 4WD sport is faster than RWD for normal humans using MDM

that was a big distraction for me, for some reason i was not able to focus on anything else.

the other distraction was the hideous fake engine sound.

I think I’d be getting rid of those springs and putting a set of ohlins or KW on, with a small front lip too, if lap times are key.

At the end of the day the car was still awesome on the track. Your taking advice from a guy who knows every small feeling the car feeds back and has driven almost every car out there so to him it feels different but to us mere mortals it would be spot on. But do remember he’s just set up his own company to sell aero parts, and who best to sell it too 😁

Lap times are not key for this. Its mostly used as a fun road car.

We will be going back once our Alpha N bodykit kit is fitted along with some Bilstein Coilovers just so we can see the difference.

It’s definitely interesting to see how the long wheelbase CS AWD compared to the short wheelbase CSL RWD and it’s great that you’ve had the chance to drive both the M4 CSL and the M2 back to back. The weight differences and the homemade of the CSL could have played a part in the outcome. It’s always fun to personalize and improve the driving experience and to speculate on what modifications could make a difference.

Im glad you love the way it’s looks and it’s sounds it’s set up perfectly for you.

I coded off those sounds last night and was amazed at how quiet the M2 interior is without them.

It won’t work without the stiffer springs to handle the aero effects.

And then you will need different shocks to handle the stiffer springs.

And so on.
