I fully agree the S58 is a wicked motor in all regards. Were you speaking of the OG M2 with the N55 or the Comp with the S55... ?

The S55 M2c is flat above 5k rpm, the M2cs and F80/2 are not. The S55 is a great motor as well, but simply not as good stock or modded as the S58.

In practice, the "low-power" S58 always has less boost, especially in the mid-range, but on the other hand the power delivery is very linear for a turbocharged engine and there is no feeling that it has been detuned (at least until you drive the full-power version, which behaves like a real turbo engine). The detuned S55 behaved like the full power version up to 5000, then suddenly dropped, not very natural actually. My personal feeling is that the detuned S58 is still stronger than the full power S55. |
