Did you get the Cooling and High Performance Tire Package?

Hi,

I’m about a year away from ordering my M240i. Originally it was going to be this summer. However, the wife wants me to keep my 16 Grand Cherokee so need a year to save up some dollars.

Anyway, I’m torn on whether this Cooling and High Performance Tire Package is worth it.

Please let me know if you ordered/purchased yours with this or plan to later. Do you feel it’s worth the cost?

Thanks!

Picked mine up Friday.. the flares are definitely sexy and I do really like the wheels that come with it. Can't speak to whether or not the additional cooling makes a difference.
My opinion is yes worth it!

I did opt for it and think it worth it but still waiting for my car to be delivered. Should be here in about 2 weeks.

I’m in the opposite camp. I did not feel it was worth it, plus not a fan of the flares. I opted for the 792 cerium wheels non-run flat performance.

Didn't think worth it, plus the required added fender flares look like a cheap add-on.. no thanks

Golddog,

This brings up another question. Are the below specs accurate for the 792? Also, what brand/model tire comes on them? Lastly, did this remove the speed limiter from 130mph to 155mph?

1VZ 19" M Double spoke cerium gray style 792, with performance non rft tires - (19x8.5, 245/35 R19 front and 19x9.5, 255/35 R19 rear)

Thanks much, will do.

Can I assume the below is another typo? Having 40 series on the front and 35 on series on the rear is not right, correct?

19" M Double spoke black style 791M, with performance non run-flat tires
Front: 19x8.0, 225/40 R19
Rear: 19x8.5, 255/35 R19

I seriously considered it but while I really wanted the 245s on the front tires, I didn't think the cooling package was worth the money. So I opted for option C. Skip the cooling package and then after buying the car upgrading my 225s to 245s.

I'm still waiting for a buyer on my 225s before I buy the 245s and put them on the car.

Overall tire diameter is key more than just looking at the sidewall ratio.

Use a tire size calculator and it will show you that the tire dia is almost the same on the front 225/40 and rear 255/35.

On xdrive cars, you want the difference between front and rear tire diameter to be close to 1% or less to avoid the system to think an axle is slipping cutting power to compensate for the tire revolution difference.

The specs are wrong as other have stated. There have been different brands of tire but I believe most have been Pirelli. My order did have the 840 increased speed limiter on it.

the above specs are correct and that is what you get with the 1VZ option as well.

I agree that if you are going to do a fair amount of high performance drivers education events at road circuits it would be beneficial. If you do not plan on taking your car to race tracks routinely, then I would save the money for some thing else.

The 40 and 35 in the tire sizes are %'s of the overall width. So the side wall height is...

225mm * 40%= 90mm
...and...
255mm * 35%= 89.25mm

So the sidewall height's differ by .75mm.

After seeing all the photos of the press cars with the Pro Pack wheels, I knew I would want them over the other 19" designs. Typically buying them separately would probably be the price of the package anyways. Then when I found out it came with the enhanced cooling, larger front brakes, M colored belts and the fender spats, I was sold. Plus I love the Michelin Pilot 4S tires it comes with over the Pirelli's or the Bridgestones I have seen on the other wheel packages. Finally, in light of the reviews saying brake power is low, the larger front discs are welcome.

Benefits seem pretty clear for track use. What about for autocross? High frequency brake use, but from lower speeds, and likely only 3-4 runs.

Echo as above, benefits outweigh the small cost when comparing the price of the vehicle and other options.

M Technology Pack

£300
The M Technology Pack includes upgrades for the drive train cooling system and M Sport brakes. Also performance Tyre package.

Only cost £300 in the UK. So a no point not buying it

It’s a complete bargain and I would have selected this option first if thought I needed it. I would still have selected it if I liked the wheel design.

However I don’t need it, this is my wife’s daily and I don’t like the wheel design that creates a visual of a black hole in the middle.

I ordered it because I'm too embarrassed to be seen driving a performance car with 225's in the front.

That's the first thing I do when I see a performance car, I kneel down and squint to find the tire size or while driving yell out the window and ask the embarrassed driver what size tires ya got.
