It's back home M2

So after almost a month my M2 is home
New transmission, new Shift Position Sensor and we’re good to go.

Also had CDV removed at the same time.
I can tell you right now that valve should never have been there. If you know how to drive stick, and you’ve driven stick, removing that valve should be done as soon as you buy the car. It’s a tremendous difference.

Good to hear everything is resolved and you now have a fully functioning car.

Can you say more on the CDV delete? I have heard of this as an option but don't quite understand the process and how it changes the driving behavior. Sure, I can go google it but would prefer to hear first hand from another M2 owner. Thanks!

So I’ve been driving manual cars for 35 years now. And in the past we didn’t have CDV valves. The clutch was either fully mechanical, or hydraulic. But even with the hydraulic clutches the pedal was much more direct. With the CDV the M2 Clutch is Mushy, and slow. With the CDV valve out the clutch behaves as I expect to behave no mushiness, no slow engagement.

People have differing opinions on this, but as far as I’m concerned this car drives much better without it. And having not driven it for a month and having had the CDV removed when they installed the new transmission when I picked up the car it was immediately noticeable how much better the car shifts.

Just my 2¢

I've heard it's to protect the drivetrain and I've also heard it's to remove some of the directness.
BMW seems to like to put a layer of abstraction between the driver and the machine (especially these later cars) in an attempt for more... luxury?
Problem is it's one more layer of disconnect from the machine. Yank it and forget it ever existed. I think I'm going to have my tech do it when he PDIs my car.

More “luxury” it’s about dumbing down cars for people who don’t know how to use their left foot.

It’s not difficult if you have the tools and the ability to do it. I’d rate it a 3 out of 10 if you’re mechanical. But if you don’t have the bleeding tools and are going to do it with a buddy, it’s a 4 out of 10. Lots of videos out there on how it’s done.

What did you use to delete the CDV? Did you buy a hollowed out CDV to replace it with?

Is removing the CDV as simple as retrofitting a non-CDV pipeline from E-gen M cars?

Nothing to replace, you remove the line to the slave cylinder, use a pick, or a screw and remove the orifice. This isn’t like in the past where the cdv is its own separate peice. This is just an orifice.

It’s a simple as removing the orifice out of the slave cylinder. Than bleeding the clutch.

Thanks for the clarification, I would have had this done already had I realized it was this simple.

So there's 2 pieces that were removed in that video. The metal valve itself and a plastic cylinder. Dude removed both. Some users in the comments asked if it was necessary to remove both, or just the restrictive metal insert. Their questions weren't answered. One of them said after they removed both, there was "play" left when they reseated everything, sans those 2 parts, and were wondering if re-inserting the black plastic cylinder would've removed the play.

So what's the right answer? Does the black plastic cylinder come out too? ..or do you put it back in once you've removed the metal piece.
