Brand New M2 or This?

Which would you choose for the same $72k-ish cost?

Brand new manual M2

As much as I love the E92 M3, that's a bit much they are asking for, even at that condition. The M2 is going to be faster and better handling in every way except for steering feel and of course the glorious V8 sound. Maybe find one with more miles at a more sane price?

I also personally would not want to deal with whatever issues that car's engine will probably have because it's an 11 year old BMW with a pretty unique V8. Additionally I've owned too many turbo cars to be happy with the lower torque of that V8. Love the noise it makes though! TLDR I'd like the warranty and really enjoy the S58.

As someone who owns a 13-year-old sports car in addition to my '23 M2, I'd choose the brand new M2. It would have to be a very special/rare car, and I don't think a '13 M3 fits that criteria.

Fabulous car, but if you spent that much for one with such low mileage, would you feel ok driving it much?

In my house, it would become a garage queen.

the G87 is the same price, but you could drive the shit out of it, enjoying it every single day.

And (having had an e92), I can say that the G87 is more powerful, faster, handles better, more sophisticated, a better daily, and just an absolutely amazing car.

Could you get both?????

I have to admit, if I didn't sell my E92 M3 I would still be very content with that car. That car was just simply special.

I love the v8 M3 but would still go with the M2. It has everything I want.

Price seems high. You can find an E92 M3 for a lot less than that.

I love (and am pretty much infatuated) with the E92 M3 but for that price, hands down, the new M2. I really don't see what an 11 year old car has over a new M2. It really is a special car. I was an F87 owner & I GREATLY miss that car. I big-time HATED the new M2's looks (still getting used to them...) & honestly never thought I'd actually buy a G87. One drive in my buddy's G87 and I was completely sold on it.

Now I’m curious what’s your 13 year old car? I think I may have seen you talk about it before but there’s lots of dudes here with lots of cars so I can’t recall who’s got what haha

Matt Farah had an EAG e46 and felt he couldn't even drive the thing without severely depreciating the car. A bit of a different situation here but it's still true that the value of that car is tied heavily to its odometer and low miles.

I would look elsewhere unless I had dedicated car storage planned for it.

These are all solvable problems with that isn't terribly expensive especially if you can get an E92 for $35-50k. At $72k, though, this better be a passion purchase with money to burn and all those problems better be addressed and maybe have a good dealer warranty.

The M2.
If you want a car to drive.

That M3 is not in the same league although it has a V8.

That M3 is expensive. It's definitely not worth $70k-ish for a daily driver.

I was going to edit my post to talk about the bottom end issues.

My buddy got rid of an e60 M5 last year and bought an i4 M50. He had a full bottom end kit in the trunk that sold with the car.

Bad news.

I already bought a 2025 M2 and plan to keep it pristine. As a non-daily, weekend only car and outlet for my perfectionist tendencies.. I’ll probably only be driving it 2-3k miles a year.

In 10yrs or so it will be a museum piece like this E92.. just wonder if I should have got the E92 that’s already a museum piece ha! Biggest thing I was looking for in the weekend car was a feeling of rawness and emotion.. the M2 delivers on this a bit more than my prior G80 and yea it’s faster that my prior F80 and E46… but I’ve never experienced an E92 so have always been curious.

even as a weekend only car i would feel bad beating on/putting miles on that thing. and the valuation, as they say, is full. theres no near term upside even if you stuff it in a bubble. i'd much rather have a driver grade e92 with 3x the miles and some of the critical maintenance issues addressed for 40% of the price.

As a former owner of an E92 M3 and current owner of a 2024 M2, the M2 hands down! Loved the E92 and the intoxicating sound (mine was SC and catless) the M2 is far superior, not to mention that specific one is definitely overpriced...
