Tire and Wheel Protection

Filled out paperwork this past Saturday and the dealer pushed the tire and wheel protection plan. Normal I would pass, but this is my first BMW and don’t really know what to expect. The dealer said it was now or never to sign up for the plan

I have 30 days to cancel and get 100% refund.

Has anyone gotten the tire and wheel protection? Have you used it? Was it worth it?

I got the 18” wheels because I’d read they produced less Road noise, will find out in due time.

I’m leading towards canceling, but wanted to hear others experience.

Have you ever curbed a rim? Or wrecked a wheel hitting a big pothole? If so...tire and wheel protection might be for you.

The 18's have quite a bit more sidewall than the 19's-so they're a little tougher.

Depends on how the roads are by you. Also, a lot of policies don’t cover “cosmetic” damage to the rim. I cancelled my coverage. Would be cheaper for me to get the rim fixed myself if I have an occurrence. I think the biggest benefit is if 1) you live in an area with bad roads/potholes and 2) if you want the simplicity of the dealership handling everything if you have an issue. With that said, if you get a flat or damaged sidewall, but rim/wheel is ok you will need to find a place to do the cosmetic repair. Some wheel plans cover cosmetic. Check with your dealer or read your paperwork.

I have runflats in LA/Socal. First month of ownership, popped my front right, just found out my front left has a smallish bulge. It's cost me like ~370 for the front right. I work at a body shop but when I got quoted they told me something like 5000 for 3 years? I don't know. Doubt its worth it.

As mentioned, coverage varies. I did option for the coverage for peace of mind. My dealership does cosmetics as well with the coverage; however, that is limited to three occurrences.

To answer your questions. No, I’ve never hit the curb or pot hole so hard that it damaged my rims.
Some minor road rash, but this policy wouldn’t cover that.

That’s a lot for coverage.
This is around $2k for 5 years and or 60k miles.
If the odds are high that a rim will be smashed then it might be good. Otherwise I feel it might not be worth it.

$2k for 5 years or 60k miles is solid IMO. I just picked up my M240 with the 19” wheels a couple days ago and I paid ~$3600 for 5 years for the wheel and tire coverage. I had a 2020 MINI countryman that had run flats and in the 3 years I had it I replaced like 7 tires and 2 rims so I didn’t wanna take anymore chances. NYC roads are rough

Garage List
2023 BMW M240  [0.00]
2015 BMW 235xi  [0.00]
I declined the $2300 wheel and tire insurance on my M235i back in the day. Blew 2 tires from potholes in 8 years of ownership. Replacement cost including alignments was around 900 dollars out the door. I won that bet. This is in Connecticut with less than ideal pavement. I’d guess the roads in the metro Atlanta area are better. My 2 cents…
I’d pass.
Like most insurance policies, total waste of money….but when (if) you ever need it, well, nice to have!

I have the ZTK and the offer to me was $2,344 for 5 years, and it had a lot of outs for the reinsurer.

I've had 5 destroyed tires in 30 years and 600,000 miles of driving and one damaged rim. The total cost, including repairing the rim, was far less than $2,344, so I declined.

Thanks for your 2 cents, it is appreciated. There are bad roads in metro Atlanta, and a lot of construction. Which is a reason for exclusion in the terms. The dealer argued against that one.
The roads I travel most often, aren’t horrible. I’ve gotten few nails in my tires over the years but never damage to the rims.
I signed up for the plan because the dealer implied the BMW rims and tires are shit.
Thanks for all your info.
