You are right, BMW AG has never said anything to anyone here (surprising?). Since BMW AG controls the show, trying to pry answers to unknowns from sources that have no info is a waste of time (of course, some will give BS responses to make their customers feel good or to avoid a potential feeling of disconnect).

There have been many articles, from BMW dealers in the US and "reputable sources" (ie Car and Driver) who said delivery to US would begin in April 2023. Now these "stories"/articles are from October 2022 or so, and things can change beyond everyone's control, however it would be truly nice for some transparency since they had orders go live in November.

There is no doubt that the info put out by BMW in October was in the very least misleading, and all the sources interpreted it as April delivery, and BMW was fine with everyone assuming this. It's a little frustrating, but I'm going to take advantage of the time line and save more money for a down payment. This car costs more than I should be budgeting for, but man do I really want it.

I decided I had had enough waiting today and went to pull the rip cord.. and buy a M3/M4 instead. I called every dealer in the US with one for sale with an MSRP under $80K. Every single one is either pre sold or they won’t sell it to me because I’m not a local customer. Wow. I felt deflated by the time I called the last dealer and they said they flat out wouldn’t sell me their M car. I’m a cash buyer and will pay for shipping.. not good enough. The shortage is real.

That's ridiculous. If you spec one you'll get delivery in August or Oct at least according to my dealer.

There are several for sale with prices posted on all the websites. I found two right around 80.

Edit: Scratch that, they've been sold.

Do it! Overall better car in all facets. Only thing is not having a s58. But u can only tune so much with that limited manual.

Only tune so much with that limited manual? What are you referring to?

Since there are customers in other countries getting allocations, I’m not buying the delay story. Wouldn’t make any sense, it has been mentioned someone living in Germany has an allocation for a U.S. spec’d vehicle.

So then my question is BMW purposely releasing allocations to certain countries based on a shipping timeline? I’d imagine Central, South and North America would be the quickest to ship. Maybe they know it will take much longer to ship to certain parts around the world so they’re giving them a head start before fulfilling orders that require less shipping time?

I don’t know, I’m just throwing shit against the wall cuz I want my M2 dammit!

I think if you look at the sequence in which order books were opened you may find some rationale for the answer. Germany was opened first - they will get the first cars in April and then so on.

Completely my opinion but the Germans are typically pretty logical in their approach.

I have heard the week of the 23rd date from my SA as well. It was only the first day of the week yesterday, I am still hoping for allocations to drop by Friday. Checking quickly the G80 forum, M3/4 allocations haven't dropped yet either...

BMW of South Atlanta. Was forced to buy out of South Florida, or Florida in general really. I was “late” to the party, and by late I mean on time

This, because hoping/wishing for them to drop each and everyday is getting tiresome. It seems to make the wait worse.

Well that would make no sense. How would they provide the xustom builds if they didnt have production numbers/VINs for each and everyone's order (which allocations would need to go out so they could be assign to each order)???

I think we are now getting silly, or dealers are tired of being asked and they are just saying anything to get people to leave them alone.
