How to play paused music from the steering wheel?

I use Apple Carplay exclusively for music and podcasts on my iDrive8 equipped M240i. Now sometimes the music/podcast gets paused from a call or whatever and I can’t seem to find a button on the steering wheel to press “play” again. I end up having to use the touchscreen or asking Siri to “play music/podcast”. Surely I’m just missing something right?

How do you resume playing from the steering wheel controls?

I have this same problem and usually just hit play on the main ID7 screen.

have you tried pushing in the little knob on the right side of the steering wheel? I personally have never done it but I can only think that it's the last button to push lol

I have actually. It brings up the tracklist on the HUD. If i select a different track it plays that track, but I haven’t found a way to play the track I’m already listening to! 🤨

You try the volume up button? Pause and mute are almost the same for every source except AM/FM radio.

Volume up adjusts the volume but the track doesn’t play. It was the first thing i tried since volume up on my Jaguar does exactly that (plays the current track).

As a side note, I guess i don’t have a mute/stop track on the steering wheel either!

I think if you push the volume nob, that acts as play/pause when streaming content. When listening to the radio, it acts mute/unmute.

I was pretty upset there was no mute button on the steering wheel, coming from an American car. But got pretty used to pushing the volume nob instead.

Yeah that works for “muting” since i think it’s the on/off button. Will check if pressing it once when music is paused will resume playback. Too bad it’s not on the steering wheel though.

I use Apple Music and it functions as a pause button for me, not just mute

Just tested this today. The button will resume the music if it was “muted” (turned off really) with the button in the first place. BUT if your music paused because of a call or because you asked siri something or whatever, pressing the button will just turn the speakers off and on without actually resuming what you were playing. You still need to press the play button somewhere on the touchscreen to resume the track.

You can use the scroll wheel next to the gear selector to pause and unpause. Sometimes it works just by pressing and other times I have to scroll to the pause button on the screen.

Not there in a MY23 build, or at least, not in the UK

What do you have instead? US models still have the scroll wheel on 2023 builds.

A rotary & push knob underneath the centre air vents

Sorry, yes I'm talking about the idrive controller. You can press on that while in the active music display and usually it will pause/unpause.
