To have or not the have my new 330i dealer preped?

To have or not the have my new BLACK 330i dealer preped? Im really thinking of telling my dealer not to do anything more then remove the plastic on the interior and the exterior. I really dont think i want them touching the paint. What is everyones thought on this. Its coming into port on Friday!!

Black is a tough one. For other colors, I'd probably have the dealers prep it. If you know what you are doing (which I think you do, that's why this post), it's probably better to do it yourself to prevent unnecssary swirl marks.

Uhm, I didn't even know there was an option not to have it prepped. What are you afraid of? They'll scratch it?

Its a possibility to not have them prep it especially if you demand it. Most people don’t know because no one really asks. Its not a big deal really, I just don’t want them to wash it. The thought of them puttig a dirty rag on my new black car makes me cringe. I’m an autopia nut; washing and caring for my cars is a big deal for me!! I’m a little when it comes to my car. My girlfriend calls my current vehicle "Black Beauty" because it only comes out when I want it too. Chris

All the prep includes is a car wash and removal of the plastic? Or is there more that they do?

For my black sapphire metallic they removed all the plastic, etc, and then did a quick wax job. They did a decent job. The mistake I made was going back later for their free car wash day. Bad bad idea. I figured the would take more care, but that was stupid of me.

Zaino is on the way though, I'll get it all cleaned up soon enough.

Why was it a bad idea? Did they scratch it or something?

Had my black sapphire prepped. They did a decent job and I find no swirl marks on the paint everytime I wash it myself.

However....however, whenever I go to the dealer I make a point of telling them to not touch the exterior. No, forget washing, I tell them to not even wipe anything off. They oblige by putting a post it on my steering wheel with 'No Wash' written in bold red on it.

Learnt this from my old car. Whenever I used to take that to the dealer you could see boys wiping down the car with a california blade and use the same rag on 10 different cars.

Prep only consists of removing plastic films and protectors and a wash and wax. Even if let them wash it I will not let them use a wax. I would bet a large sum of money they use a carnuba based wax with fillers. Fillers hide the scratches they install. So i think im gonna go with no wash on my car. Im gonna call tommorow to tell the sales person and then im gonna call them before they get it to remind them. Chris
