G87 is such an insane value

Title says it all. The G87 is such a crazy value for $64K and change. Granted, mine was $76K and change but still. Even at that, it's a crazy value.

I say this because I picked up a $61K Wrangler 4Xe over the weekend. The interior is something a farmer would love. It's big, its' dumb, it's a toy that I love driving around. Also, I now have 150 miles on it and the gas tank is literally full, like I used 10% lol. Plug in hybrid on mud terrains FTMFW.

I get back into the G87 to start it up and move some fluids around and just really hit with the quality of all of the touchpoints, the quality of iDrive 8 with its crisp and snappy graphics and intuitive controls. Just the overall niceness of the cabin.

That with the fact that it has the balance and acceleration of a 911 that costs twice as much, seats 4, and is a beast to look at, how can you not love it for mid $60s? Its such a unique car with an insane value proposition that frankly doesn't get enough credit.
Well, it did win MotorTrends Performance Car of the Year.

What i'm saying is, enjoy those cars, cherish it, you wont find a small manual transmission luxury coupe soon.

68k build here. feels like i robbed the place at that price, and the 2k (3k over 2023) base price hike for 25 seems like BMW agrees

The same in Australia, the G87 is remarkable bang for your buck. Here it is $AUD135,000 fully optioned, an optioned Porsche Cayman GTS is $AUD235,000, a base 992.2 model 911 optioned to match a G87 (including carbon roof) is $AUD330,000.

Yes, the G87 is the affordable luxury rear drive sports car of our era.

Enjoy mate.

$68,200 build for me and that includes the MP HAS. I have friends that think I'm nutz for spending that much on a car but $68k just isn't that much anymore for a new car. Then compare what you get performance wise and it stacks up well against other available options in terms of value.

As a multiple Wrangler owner, I concur. However, Wrangler prices are just stupid. I canceled my last order, even at 4% below invoice, because they're just not worth it anymore. Had a 4xe for 2 weeks in Hawaii this Summer & was not a fan at all.

Wrangler prices are completely out of control. It's a $35K vehicle at most.
That's why I leased mine. $350 a month and it uses no gas. Worth it. BTW, that $350 is out the damn door. So cheap.

Have to agree. I debated for a long time between the M2 and Cayman GTS. Test driven both. Finally went with the M2. The Cayman is decided a better car (much better handling, superior manual transmission--the M2 still feels a bit rubbery). But is it $40,000 better? No way.

I still would rather have a 718s but as a GT car, the M2 is just better. I’ll have zero regrets.

I agree, especially when you price out a fully loaded S650 Mustang GT with PP and all the creature comforts. Its within spitting range...I cancelled my Mustang order and went with the M2. So glad I did.

I don't really see the Cayman GTS being better than an G87. On paper, they do the exact same thing in terms of performance but the G87 can sit four and doesn't have strangely long gears. And in my opinion, looks a ton better with a carbon roof and carbon seats. Unless you spec the crap out of your GTS, it looks super plain, add another $20K in options to make it look really nice. Even then, i'd take the G87. It really is a Performance Car bargain.

It's not just a great value for cost, either, there are other great benefits!

1. You don't have to buy a $10K watch (oof), or crazy dealer markups (looking at you GR-C). G87s are relatively easy to get without shenanigans.

2. The shared platform with the G8x gives us a ton of aftermarket options that are already tested and don't have early adopter fees.

3. You don't have to deal with Caddy or Toyoya dealerships, who can DIAF frankly. Small sample size but my experience with BMW dealers has generally been good.

The caveat is that this is true in the US. In Europe, the G87 is much more expensive, and not really a super great deal. Basically the same price as a Cayman.

Edit: oh, AND the G87 factory options are relatively simple and sanely priced.

One other thing...in my earlier post I explained I didn't move forward with an S650 Mustang purchase. The price was within a few thousand dollars, but what was also the kicker, I would have to put $7k of mods to get the Mustang to where I would want it, while the M2 just under $1500 to get it where I want it.

That’s why I have one to accompany my 911. Id rather have a 718 but as a daily, the M2 makes more sense and it just wants to drive around angry all the time, I love it. Such a brooding character.

When you compare the quality of the two, it’s a no brainer to pick the M2. The only reason you get the Mustang is because you have to have a Mustang and a V8.

You give me hope I won’t regret passing on the last gas 718.

I owned a 2021 718 Cayman for less than a year. The base model had an amazing chassis and gearbox but the engine/power was hugely dissapponting. Absolutely ruined the experience as it was so underpowered… I felt slower than a minivan

I was also cross shopping an S650 Mustang. A GTPP Premium would be $60k+. So I started just shopping the dark horse because they’re $65k base model but Ford dealers are still such a PITA to shop through. Best I could do after trying to put 6 dealers against each other was $2500 off the GTPP. Dark horse one dealer was willing do to msrp but had no idea when they’d get an allocation.

So after watching a bunch of reviews, I honestly didn’t even know what an M2 was because I’ve always bought domestic. I found out I can get it in manual, check, faster than a DH or GTPP, check, better color choices, check, leather and moon roof standard, check. For me there’s not a thing I would change about the M2.

Lastly finding dealers to do msrp was easy, but nobody would do under msrp. Then I just picked on how close the dealer was an ordered. How 25 days from ordering my car has already gone into the production queue and expected to be completed by November 4th. Ordering through Ford is a PiTA but BMW has made it hella easy.

I can’t wait to get my car.

I paid 71,599 Euros including a 5300 Euro discount in 2023 when US dealers were over charging lol. A new 911 base is 128,000 euro's for 2025. So the M2 is an excellent value here in Europe, certainly here in Germany. 2025 base is 76,600,00. Tough to beat the M2. You can spend much more and not do as well.

Interesting, so what am I recalling? There was definitely a place where the M2 and base Caymans were pretty close in price, I remember the reviewers complaining about it. Australia? UK?

There is a post above with Porsche prices vs M2 in Australia. Its rather eye opening disparity!
