Supra strut bar - yes or no?
https://www.evasivemotorsports.com/s...upra-a90-2020/
Would something like that fit the G42? I'm under the assumption that the two side strut braces fit either car but is the distance between the two strut towers the same? |

I like it, but no way, IMO, that main bar or those brackets fit under the hood.

Dinan offers a strut bar for the G42:
https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...arts/D180-0014 It does not go across the towers so some have questioned the effectiveness of this sort of strut brace.

I bought G22 OEM parts to install it in a OEM+ modification style.
There are several posts in g20 forum https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1810482 For sure it's one of the cheapest options, both strut bar, the front bar (the g20 and g42's one doesn't have threads for bolts) and all the bolts cost me about 200$ (180€). |

Looks good! When you say "OEM ones", do you mean these are BMW parts? If so, do you have the part number?
Thanks!

they are G22 OEM parts, part numbers are: Strut : 51617456115 x2 stock are bare metal, you can paint it if you want Bolts : 51716966566 x4 The front brace don't have the nut so you need to change also the front brace to the G22 one ( p/n: 51648491817 + required bolts 07147270121 x4 ) or use a rivnut o just a nylon nut to install it. Also you will need to tap the strut hole (M10x1.5) Replacing the front bar the hardware is less than 200$ and installation it's pretty straight forward. |

Did that include swapping the front bar with the threaded holes?

OEM Strut Bars
Cheers,
New to the BMW world but not to car modding, happy to have a turbo back under the hood. It all started with a 95 Eclipse GSX, then a G35, now this! My first bolt-on while I wait for Dinan intake parts to show up was the OEM Strut bars. BMW (51-61-7-456-115) x2 I used stainless rivet nuts for the front (M10 Stainless Steel Rivet nuts M10-1.5mm Threads) and beveled a lip if I need to remove that aluminum plate, then tap’d the rear holes Metric Thread Tap,M10 Right Hand Thread Tap (M10x1.5) M10 Stainless Bolts and washers The entire process took maybe an hour, going slowly – It was pretty easy. I polished the bars for bling. I purchased the bars from getbmwparts.com Love this car, still 600 miles into break in - Maybe this info will help anyone interested. Great Forum! |

Shame it doesn’t seem to be available in the UK.
I’d have that in a heartbeat! Edit: just emailed them and they do ship to the Uk! Last edited by Pentland; 05-07-2024 at 02:07 PM.. |

Do you all think the strut bars that use a screw and nut are as sturdy / give the same benefit as those who add the front brace from the g22 to secure the bars?

I installed the factory strut bars last weekend. I was surprised that I did not need to use the spacers that came with the Dinan intake. The strut bar had about 3/16" clearance at its closest to the intake cover without the spacer with no rubbing.
