Fantastic first HPDE

Well this has been a real adventure I wanted to share with you guys, and encourage you to do the same. I got out with the BMW CCA Puget Sound Region for their High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) at Pacific Raceways.

While I have had a chance for a few track experiences, this was an entirely different animal entirely. This was a full day out with an in-car instructor all day, which was amazing. I learned SO MUCH through the day, and grew in my knowledge of my M2, which is an absolute monster. That car is FAR more capable than I am, which is both daunting and encouraging.

A lot of the clubs offer similar days, and the HPDE here in the Puget Sound with the club is something I think everyone should try at least once!

Check it out, and yeah.. I talk to myself while driving to stay focused on the skills needed at each moment. (side note.. turning into turn 1 at 125mph.. is...just nuts!)

What a gorgeous track. I miss the PNW!
Careful- you will get bit by the bug. Pretty soon you will be swapping out tires, brake pads, and suspension, experimenting with MDM setting, and chasing seconds!

*laugh* I know right? Even though it was my first day out, I was missing the set of OEM wheels I just sold, thinking maybe track tires on those to swap in for the day!

The irony of it is I have a BIG brake project coming already, so didn't mind the "extra" wear on the pads since they are about to be swapped out anyway. I also have a full Moton kit from Kies Motorsports sitting on my workbench begging to be installed.

So many things coming.. and it was SO much fun!

Awesome, glad to see you took the car out on track! Doing track days are an experience like nothing else and really teach you what cars are capable of.

That track also does bicycle racing during the week wihch is another really fun way to experience being on a track. I used do that when I lived out there; literally hitting elbows up against the person next to you in a pack of racers is something to experience as well

Always great to see more people getting out on a track and learning how fun the sport can be.

Great vid! I could feel the emotion and butt-puckers from here, lol.

Not convinced if I'll track the M2 yet. I feel, knowing myself, I'd have $15k worth of crap on order the next day. Used to do some noob amateur track days in an old STI and went through many sets of tires and bought tons of sway bars and coilovers and stuff, essentially ruining my DD, lol.

Gonna have to see about the M2.

*laugh* Yeah.. turn 1 at 125mph was an entirely new experience and several of the laps had -turn into 1-.. make it.. FFFFFFFuuuuuuuuu... come out of my mouth. lol

Amazing instructor though, just perfect and a great day!

Thank you! I should have a follow up video n3xt week of my laps with the instructor in his F87 M2. He threw me around hard and was an entirely different level with him driving.

Congrats on taking the plunge! Nothing like HPDE track days. I have been going once per year since 2007. First 5 years or so were with an instructor each time. Agreed, definitely learn a lot. You also learn that not all instructors are alike, and some you may not particularly like.

Good luck! Before you know it, you'll move up to the Intermediate and Advanced run groups and run solo.

Thank you and really want to get back out next spring when the sessions start again.

BMW DIY GUY - Your video was a very good/accurate description of BMW CCA Performance Driving Schools. I have done several at tracks here in the Midwest. Your instructor David, was excellent and reminds me too of my instructors...very knowledgeable, calm and encouraging at the same time. I agree totally with the comment....BMWs have more capabilities than the majority of drivers...lots of room for driver improvement and car knowledge. The track is the best and safest place to experience what your BMW (and you!) can do.
Thanks for the video..brought back some good memories for sure!
