Turner Catback

Grabbed one of these for the G42 since it was under $1300. For the money I figured why not try it out, it's a daily driver so it doesn't need to be gorgeous just functional. I'll attempt to update this after I've had a chance to throw it on and drive it a bit.
Out of the box the build quality is right around where I'd expect it. Welds could be a bit nicer in places. The prewelded pipe fitment is a bit rough in spots but again this is a full cat back for under $1500 so I'm not surprised. 16-18ga. thick material throughout construction, 3" dia. 304 pipe. So far so good.

Please let us know how this turns out!

I’m tempted to be the guinea pig with this system and an AA downpipe (unless you have a catted or catless DP) based on your experiences after install.

I’m still disappointed in how quiet and tame the Dinan is at anything other than WOT, even with the AA DP.

Strange thing with this Turner one is moving to only one 3” pipe back, but maybe the weight savings is worth the omission.

There’s only the one video from ECS online, so if you get any chance at all to record some sound clips, I’m sure we’d all be very interested to hear it!

I won't have a chance to install it until probably this weekend, I have to shuffle cars around to get at my lift. I'm not too concerned with the 3" from the cat back, its a fairly straight shot and based on prior experiences 3" on a 3 liter works just fine unless you start going big hp, I'm not even sure why they bothered splitting it from the factory. Oh and I have a factory DP, for now, just for reference, this is my first mod other than wheel spacers.

I installed the exhaust this morning. Pretty straight forward. The directions aren't perfect but they will get you close enough. Only had one set back which didn't stop the install just makes the car look a bit weird atm. Two of the exhaust tips were missing the inner spherical compression ring so I wasn't able to put all four tips on. I talked to the vendor and they are sending me new tips right away. But anyway. Test drove it and initial impressions are favorable. It is a bit throatier especially at low RPM and the burbles are more pronounced (as they should be imo). I wouldn't define it as a night and day difference but it's there, and from what little driving I did, I wasn't able to produce any noticible drone in either comfort or sport which honestly surprised me. A bit more miles and I'll report again if anything changes. I suspect adding a DP to this would definately add aggression to the sound. I'll post my before and after vids as soon as my 1900s self figures out how to post to youtube lol.
One additional note to add I can hear a bit more turbo spooling than before which is nice.

Ignore the rock it was propping up my wallet which was holding my phone. Both vids were taken at the same height and distance away.

Thanks very much for posting that video! Glad you did the before / after to give a baseline.

Turbo spool is definitely more audible with valve open, so that’s promising.

No problem. I don't normally review things, but there was such little info on this compared to others I figured it might help.

Hey do you know if you can use the stock tips with this exhaust?

Not without customizing pieces. You could possibly cut out the factory tips to accept the supplied 90° y pipe. Or you could use a different 90° non y pipe off the muffler.

Can you possibly measure the outer diameter of one of the four exhaust pipes that the tips clamp to?

I’m curious if any model’s OEM M tips will work.

All raw tips measured 2.515-2.518" +/-.002"
Or just a smidge under 64mm
I couldn't get an accurate center to center spacing on the y-pipe. Maybe later when the other two tips arrive in the mail I can grab that if needed.

Thanks for breaking out the caliper and grabbing those precise measurements!

A bit disheartening that they are neither standard sized (63mm) nor M-sized (67mm).

I forgot to ask about the center spacing, but with those measurements, I’ll see if I can calculate from pictures.

honestly 63mm or 2.5" tips would likely fit just fine. Worst case you might need to expand the 63mm tips a touch but commonly tips have enough play to deal with a bit of out of spec/out of round conditions.

4.25" roughly, measured by eye with a dial caliper center to center on the y-pipe.

4" exit OD might fit but it would be really close. My recommendation would be to replace the last section of y-pipe with a custom fitted piece then you'd be fine. The catback tips it comes with have spherical bushings to help setup tip alignment to account for minor weld inconsistencies etc so increasing the od would eat into the tolerances. Could be a case by case install on whether it would work or not, not sure how accurate Turner is with the manufacturing.

Nice . That sounds pretty good. Nice deep tone. Not a bunch of extra raspiness.

And the muffler is a good deal smaller than stock, so I'd imagine probably a 20 pound weight savings

While I'm here I might as well post a couple weeks later review.
After putting several hundred miles on the exhaust it's gotten just a touch more aggressive but I'd still consider it a mild to different, improvement over factory. I'd be interested to hear what an aftermarket dp would do to it. I believe that extra 10-15% rawness might just be the ticket. That being said I've noticed only one point in RPM that I could consider drone but its 2000+/-200 RPM with mild pressure on gas (like when climbing a slight grade) it produces a bass note that isn't strong enough to harmonic but is noticeable compared to all other points. This only occurs in comfort/eco with the valve closed. Cold start is aggressive sounding but quickly tapers off after 20-30 seconds.
As far as recommendations, I would certainly retorque the clamps sooner than 500miles possibly even a few times just to allow for "settling"
I'll follow up if I run into anything else noteworthy. TTFN

Just noticed this is a single pipe design , essentially eliminating the Y-Pipe section .

How exactly does this change exhaust flow characteristics ? Does the use of 3 inch piping deliver similar flow to a standard y-pipe catback ?

This has to be a lot more than a 20 pound weight savings

Going by experience, commonly a free flowing 3" exhaust volume on a 3.0 liter should flow successfully north of 600hp once you get above 600 I'd increase it to 3.5-4". The factory splits it right after the downpipe and runs two smaller od pipes back for extra clearance. (If I had to guess 2.25-2.5" with a lot of pinched areas). You do save on weight. 45lbs vs 63lbs per Turners site.

The welds actually look pretty good. They used enough filler and didn't overheat/cook the stainless steel. Maybe could look a little better cosmetically, but I would be happy with those welds!

I thought the same thing. Looks good quality to me.

I also see that you can order the cattback for like $1,100 without tips.

Maybe that, plus some AliExpress tips might be the winning ticket for a great priced cattback

I just can't wrap my head around spending $3k or more for an exhaust
