Main gauge gone and came back in Sport Mode

I was leaving work and stopped at an intersection. Full stop, as I waited, my main gauge screen went black and HUD was gone. Middle screen then said driver assistant features were disabled.

Several seconds after, main gauge screen and HUD came back in sport mode (it was in default comfort before).

Weird glitch after the SW update, and wonder whether anyone had seen the same thing.

Maybe it was not a software glitch but a feature since that is almost what alot of us are wishing for, default m-mode in Sport.

Had you driven the car after the update or was that the first time?

Several trips after I did the update. It was pretty weird to have the main gauge being gone.

took to the dealer and they reflash the SW, ran tests and declared it was fixed after driving it for 2 miles.

Of course I got it back and drove 20 minutes back to work and it was fine. And then when I leave work several hours later, the moment I started the car, it went black again.

So yeah, taking it back to dealer again next week.

If you can take a video of it for your dealer. A lot of times BMW and most other manufacturers won’t do anything until they see that. Dealers hands are tied to as they won’t authorize a warranty claim if they can’t reproduce it.

I actually did have a video of that but the dealer didn't ask. I will show them that next time when I take the car in.

It happened to every single BMW I’ve owned, from the 2014 328i to my current 2023 X5. (one or two times per year)

It just reboots itself without anything done to it, and comes back in a few minutes like nothing happened.

No need to worry in my opinion.

No, this isn't a random reboot. And it is only the tach and speedo screen being black, not the middle screen. iDrive stays on and well and I could change drive settings and use map and everything. Just not the gauge screen.

They said it was the KOMBI and needed part from Germany so needed to wait 3 weeks and could not let me have my car back due to legal reason.

Got to drive around a i4m50 for 3 weeks.

Got my car back yesterday after for 3 weeks, they also replaced the main screen along with the KOMBI, seemingly it is fixed (so far has not gone black).

And unfortunately this morning I got a rock chip on my windshield and cracked my windshield again.... I am not ready to go through the same sequences again for replacing windshield. Hope this one doesn't expand too much.

Safelite had trouble getting OEM glass so I did wait 3 weeks for that.
And then another 3 weeks for the main instrument panel repair.

That took away two month of prime track and autocross time from me. Pretty bummed about that.
