2024 M240i - Video Recorder

Hello,

I've just purchased a 2024 M240i. It includes the Parking Assistance Package, with the Surround View.

1. It does not include the optional "Video Recorder" option which was another $100 from the factory. Is the function of the "Video Recorder" to allow the Surround View cameras to record 360-degree activity? If so, seems like such a bargain. The dealer sales person was unable to tell me. I'd like to undersatnd what is the "Video Recorder." I notice the 2025 models now have "Drive Recorder" which seems to address this.

2. If I want front and rear video recording capabilities, is my only option now to purchase a dashcam. I am seriously considering the "Advanced Car Eye 3.0 Pro", even at the estimated cost of $1,500 dealer installed. Are most of you going this route, or should I be considering 3rd party products?

Thanks for your patience with this very first post in these forums.

the drive recorder is just a button you push and it will save the last 20 seconds (configurable) and next 20 seconds using all the cameras (configurable).

Once activated it records 20 seconds prior and 20 seconds after the activation time. I believe it auto activates as well, in an event of an accident.

You need to configure those 20 seconds though, not sure what it comes with as standard, but there are options to change the time before, time after, etc...

You can purchase it after buying the car through the myBMW app with what BMW calls "Connected Drive Upgrades". I think it was like $139.
