Carbon Package Discussion
Now that the dust has settled and you can built the car online, along with full pricing revealed with a freaking $10,000 package, what are your thoughts on the Carbon Package?
Is it too expensive? Were you going to order those items anyway so it is cheaper? Undecided? Or are you going to wait until BMW breaks the package apart (which of course they will) and you can parse out the items you actually want at a much lower price point? I'll go first, the carbon seats and roof are a big draw. I love the way both of them look and would most likely have a major case of FOMO if I didn't have them. However, I still don't want to pay $2500 for a track day. And hell, $7500 on basically two options on a $63,000 car, a 12% premium is kind of nuts but does keep the overall costs down on the car. I think in my case, I'm going to wait until BMW breaks the options down. I'm still not convinced on the G87, I think with recent BMW designs, it's best to reserve judgement until seeing it in the flesh.

Don't forget you also get the all important carbon fiber interior bits with the $9,900 package.
I guess it does not matter to me; I don't want the buckets or the roof. The buckets on my friends new M4 are a pita to use as a daily driver. I decided to embrace the "free" sunroof. So I added just the carbon interior trim. |

Carbon Package is out of question for me. I would heavily consider the CF buckets on their own but much like yourself, I am not paying $2,500 for a track day. Thus, I am left with the CF roof and trim optioned on my build.
I would hate to see the seats as a stand-alone option after I take delivery but I guess it's great news for future buyers further down on dealer lists, if this all ends up being reality. |

The Carbon package is ridiculous and BMW USA knows this. If it was a la carte, most people wouldn't opt for the M driver's package so to include it in a "Carbon" package is pretty fucked up, even if it is slightly discounted.
This is just a way for BMW USA to screw over the people who only wanted to get the CF roof, buckets and trim. I wasn't planning on getting buckets anyway but I'd be highly pissed if I were and this was the only way to do it. I'm still pissed about the CF roof just to avoid getting a moonroof along with the fact it's cheaper in Canada lol |

100% getting the carbon package because the carbon buckets are a must have deal breaker for me
It was a shock when I first saw the $13,000 price tag for sure But I was going to order those items separately anyways except maybe the trim |

Carbon roof would be a must have for me. I'm 6'3" and with a helmet a sunroof is a no go. If I ended up needing more headroom or bolstering for track weekends, I would install a Recaro pole position. |

I love the idea of the CF bucket, but my figure would make it harder for me to exit the vehicle "gracefully". Working on losing some more weight.

As to people upset with the cost of the package, REJOICE that we now have these options on the G87. There were basically ZERO options on the F87. For the new version, BMW didn't make the CF standard so they could give buyers a low cost option. If you want, you can get an M2 with all the important performance bits for $62,500! S58! Adaptive Suspension! 6MT! 19/20 inch wheels! That's an incredible deal! Last edited by M2PDX; 11-11-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

I for one don't really care about any exterior bits of carbon fiber items, i.e. MP parts or after market alternatives. However I got bucket on my G80, and I wouldn't spec a G87 without it. Personally I wouldn't have picked the $2500 M drivers package but I guess we don't have any choice now. On the plus side it raises the speed limiter, I already hit few times on my G80. If my dealer can put cup 2s before delivery that will be awesome. But probably won't happen.

From BMWs perspective, the initial buyers want the latest and greatest and are first in line to buy. They will buy the package. I'm not in a rush to buy now, or am ever in a rush. BMW knows that a 10K package will deter the next wave of buyers from buying some of the things they otherwise would (roof and/or seats), and will break it up. Its good marketing on their part. |

I had my order in the bank and am number 1. I'm not waiting for a longer delivery (confirmed by my sales guy) for some Cf buckets. I specd with the roof and trim. $68k

CF buckets will probably only cost you 1-2 months. Even cars built in dec/jan can't be delivered until April. But if you're on the fence, makes sense to pass but in the grand scheme, it's not much longer of a wait

I did not order the carbon package as I don’t want the seats, but I do have the carbon interior trim and carbon roof.
Personally, I do not like the inconvenience of carbon seats (the worst of which is getting out of the car, second to that is the carbon lump hitting the right thigh during braking). I went to the 2 day M school last year and after comparing both regular seats vs carbon buckets out on the track, I did not notice any difference. The seat belts themselves do an adequate job holding you into your seat. However, there is no doubt it looks better. Lastly, I think the $2500 M track package is worth it LOL. Not because of increasing your top speed but because it forces you to go to the M driving school. I would call up bmw and use that money towards a 2 day school and get a discount with your CCA membership. Learning how to use your car out on the track will give you so much satisfaction and the experience can’t be matched. |

For the absurd price of the carbon package, you'd think they'd atleast throw in so exterior parts as well... atleast some mirror caps.

It is too expensive, but this is BMW, so much is too expensive. I mean, not "Porsche" too expensive, but still!
That said, I like the package a lot, and I love those seats. I may opt out on it though, just because it doesn't really make the car that much lighter, not because it is too expensive...I otherwise don't have any need for climbing in and out of the CF buckets. I will get the CF roof though...hey, it's an "M" car! |
