I just placed a 2025 M2 on order yesterday. This is literally the first car that I've ever purchased where they've had such a break-in maintenance requirement. Do they do anything else besides the engine oil and differential?

As i understand it, not really, other than maybe a quick multipoint inspection to make sure everything is ok.

Just an update. Dealership is all done with the car, they did the oil change, they talked me out of swapping the front/rear diff fluid. For anyone reading this who is new to an m-light, this is not required for non pure M cars. They quoted me at $500 per diff. Dealership sent me a video from the mechanic doing a quick multipoint inspection/review which i thought was AMAZING! Not sure if thats standard operating procedure for a BMW dealership but i have never had that before. Time to drive it like i own it!! 🚘

Service writer didn't raise an eyebrow when I scheduled the appointment. I also got texted a link to a video showing the inspection, so it must be a Bimmer thing. Never saw that before. As far as the other poster (Bret) with the M2, besides the fluid changes required at 1200 miles, I thought I saw something about an electronic rpm lock being removed with the diagnostic software to allow the full rpm range now that the break in is completed. |

I think your confused pentland, please reread, he asked if they do anything OTHER than the oil change and diff flush, to which i replied no other than a quick multipoint inspection. As i have watched videos of the M break in service i was attempting to help him understand what to expect.

I think I will. I only test drove one once and couldn't really get on it. I had a 435i MSport with a manual transmission and liked it. I'm sure the M2 will perform better. Oddly enough, the 435i had the same manual transmission as the Jaguar F-Type that I replaced it with. I actually might have purchased a M240i in order to get the X-Drive, but they don't offer it with a manual transmission. I like the looks of the M240i better than the M2.

The M2 is definitely more "race ready" whereas the m240i is a balance of speed, comfort, power and efficiency. The m240i is definitely more than enough car for me, i am not a skilled enough driver to challenge the M2.

Also the xdrive was a must have feature for me as i have a 7 mile drive to work in the snow, which coming from a mustang, this should be a marked improvement. There is a video on youtube of an xdrive 240i drifting a snow covered track, absolutely amazing.

Did you have to pay for this oil change since it's not per recommended schedule? |

OP - I did something similar, I dumped mine at 2566 miles on the odometer, but I DIY'd it so I can see what sort of impurities I got out - well worth it... Did the next oil change another 2500 miles later for piece of mind.
