Post Break-In
Probably redundant but I have not been able to find an answer. Is it safe to push the car all out after break in? I just got it done today! I wanted to hit redline and get some heat going.
Thoughts? Had a full diff and oil replacement. |

They install a flat plane crack, remove the limiter which raises the redline to 9800 RPM and they also give it 121 more hp for good measure!

You can drive it as you wish though as others have offered the engine should be fully up to operating temperature -- watch that oil temperature to know when the engine is up to temperature -- before you hit red line. If you push the car hard after you are finished drive the car some give the engine and drive train time to shed some heat load before you put shut off the engine. More spirited driving could increase oil consumption. So after you subject the car to more spirited driving check the oil level more often. |

In looking at my car's RIS service invoice I see a multi point inspection was carried out. And a "BMW standard scope service" was done as per factory warranty maintenance. Also the tech test drove the vehicle. This was mentioned on the invoice. At drop off the car's odometer was at 1204 miles. Upon getting the vehicle back the odometer was at 1207 miles. |

Right, I thought when they did that service they opened up a little more off the usable rpm range. I seem to remember the red mark moving up a little. Maybe I was seeing things.

Yeah, as M2siast says, there are no limits adjusted at the time of the break-in service. Those limits being followed prior to were soft limits of "you should not go above.....". Once you have the 1200 miles AND service done then you have no remaining soft limits, just, like any car, ensure you are up to operating temp.
Note that doing the service early does not eliminate to follow the break-in period limitations. Of course, your car, do what you want.
