6MT and Diff Fluid Changes

A few items worth noting for those interested. I am in the middle of changing the trans and diff fluids on my 2024 with 1,500 miles. I had the break in service done right at 1,200 miles. I’m doing the rear diff again so I can install magnetic plugs.

Manual specifies 1.6L max on the 6MT fluid. Mine had the factory fill and only drained 1.3L as seen in the pic. I’ll refill with 1.6L. Fill and drain plugs are the same. Picture shows OEM plug vs Turner Ti magnetic plug.

Manual specifies 1L for the rear diff, and that’s exactly what came out. Fill and drain plugs are the same. Pic shows OEM plug vs MMR aluminum magnetic plug (black anodized). Turner also makes a Ti magnetic plug.

For engine oil, I’ll use an MMR magnetic plug too.

All finished up and test drive afterward was uneventful.

Shifting did feel much better and there was only 1500 miles on the car (and the fluid). The Rogue Engineering SSK seems to be introducing some vibration or noise at idle. I need to track that down. Also need to install the Rogue shift linkage. Maybe do the CDV delete, but it seems to shift fine as is. The fluid made a good bit of difference.

So if I read this right, 1500 miles on trans fluid and 300 miles on the diff fluid.

Both look pretty dirty but really need the light behind the container to better see the condition.

What fluids did you replace the factory fluids with? Easy fluid changes is a big reason why I went with a manual. I hate doing automatic fluid and filter changes.

Motul High Torque DCTF for the trans. BMW fluid for the diff.
