Around November, I posted about the noise issue that many people in this thread have been struggling with. I had my BMW checked at a service center in Korea, and initially, a leak in the shock absorber was found. I thought that was the cause, so it was replaced, but the noise persisted. Since then, I had many measures taken, including replacing the left and right suspension parts and applying soundproofing material to the interior trim, but the noise continued.

Later, I came across information in this thread that the noise improved after replacing the shock mount, so I purchased the part at my own expense and replaced it. Finally, the noise was resolved. The noise usually occurs more in cold weather, but even though the weather in Korea has been very cold these past couple of days, I haven’t heard any sound at all, so I believe the issue has been completely resolved.

In conclusion, replacing the shock mount from part number 33506889812 to 33506889267 solves the "softball in a box" noise. The total cost for both left and right parts is about $190, which is much cheaper than purchasing the entire Bilstein suspension set. I have inquired with BMW Korea whether this repair can be covered under warranty. If it is, I will share that information here.

My "Thump" is not super intrusive so I will likely live with it vs spending $ for the fix. I DO however want to exercise BMW and have my condition documented in the event (down the road) something more dramatic goes haywire with the rear suspension.

Thats really good news and wish i had of tried before getting the Bilstein rear shocks , i the only thing that is weird is my noise disappeared completely after fitting the rear shocks but the top plates are still original......

That’s weird because the 2nd part you’ve listed isn’t for the M240i.

Its for the m340i but apparently fits from what I've read , even though i have the bilstein fitted that work i might try them with my original shocks just to see to keep it all oem as my friend owns a bmw specialist so it would not cost to much.

I went back to the service few days ago.
They changed my rear shocks and the noise is less with 80%. I can listen it sometimes yet so big chance that I will go back and try to find the solution.
