Personally I don’t understand why somebody would quibble over a few hundred dollars on a $70K+ car.
For this owner the difference between port HAS and aftermarket unknowns is an insurance policy and I’d do it again unequivocally. All of course IMO |

Port install would have been a no brainer for me at the $2,800ish (inc HAS). Unfortunately I didn't have the option as I purchased off the lot. Keeping the warranty on the suspension is less critical when the dealer is charging $2,500 for install. Can probably replace the half a dozen struts for that price. It's too bad that dealers aren't able to keep the install cost closer to the port install price.

I provided information to the OP, and backed up my statement. You provided childish name calling. Typical when one has no relevant info to share, nor can they refute another's argument.

Sorry for the noob question, but when you guys say "port install" where is the installed location exactly, and who is doing the installation?

Wow, this conversation went off the rails quickly.
I WISH I'd checked the port installed box. Unfortunately, I thought I'd save a few hundred bucks and do aftermarket KW HAS. COST $2900 to install at my local shop. So over $4,700 total. Go with Port install folks! |

I have port-installed MP HAS and love it. Note that the installers at the Port of NY/NJ have been sending cars out with the steering wheel not centered. I had to have mine corrected by the dealer under warranty, and they sent a BMW regional tech to document it to try to solve the systemic issue.
OP, since you missed the port install option, I recommend that you install it yourself or have a local performance shop do it. Don't bother with the dealer. There will be no real difference in warranty treatment if a related part fails. I think it is more important to have the lowering setting that you want with a good alignment, than worry about haggling with a dealer. good luck.

Today I was quoted $4300USD (with alignment) for the OEM HAS supply and installation.
About twice the private sector price for an equivalent installation. . Is preserving the warranty worth the premium...not sure! |

If you got the car off the lot and you have to get the HAS separately then yeah, you will have to decide if the cost if worth the warranty. You could get a different kit and take it to an independent shop and get it installed for cheaper. |

There is no reason to be paying dealership install prices if you have any reputable performance shops in your area, specially ones that work on BMWs often and/or are focused on servicing cars that are used on tracks often. They should be 100% competent enough to install the kit AND do a proper alignment and height setup, which is the part that's ACTUALLY important.
