Let's discuss PDI experiences
For the people who placed an order, what did you opt for in the way of pre-delivery clean up / PDI?
One school of thought is you don't want to accept the car dirty, as it may have damage that you won't be able to find. The other school of thought is careless employees running a brand-new car (with fickle paint in my case) through an automated car wash and/or scrubbing it down with dirty rags, sounds like a nightmare. You read plenty of accounts of people asking the dealership not to touch the car and then showing up to find it cleaned, or worse with holes drilled into the front bumper, etc. The shop I plan to use suggested I ask them to only rinse the car. Generally I ask for it to be washed/rinsed and that’s it.
Some countries however, such as Australia, have very strict rules on foreign contamination on the car, so have to be cleaned more thoroughly. |

My G42 I picked up in November of 2021 got horrible swirl marks from detailing onto the paint on delivery that I did not see until weeks later due to the thick coat of wax they applied, even though I requested to my SA that they not detail the car. She was off the day the car arrived and whatever goober worked in detail that day must have been using a brillo pad and mud to wash my car.
I am terrified its going to happen with the M2 again (currrently status 150), and I am wondering how to ensure the paint doesn't get damaged this time around. I want certainly don't want it going through an automatic car wash, but its my understanding there is usually adhesive left on areas on the paint from the protective white skins they put on for transport.

They scratched my rocker panels and whatever shitty glaze they used left ghosting marks. I had to polish the whole car the day after I got it. Lesson learned, I guess.
If you tell then to rinse the car, they're 100% going to run it through the auto wash. I would tell their detailers to keep a 10 foot distance. |

I just said don’t wash it. I got funny looks while I put painters tape all over the bumper, rockers and hips. Then drove to the ppf shop.

along with telling my CA to not let them go anywhere near the auto wash or touch the exterior in general, I'm going to try and get over to the car after it's been unloaded and before pdi to hang one of these on the mirror just in case

I told them not to touch any of the paint, wrapping, or packaging unless it was absolutely necessary to complete the PDI or test drive the vehicle. Paint wasn't perfect, it never is. Even from the factory, but mine was pretty solid. Drove it straight to the PC/PPF place.

My dealer suggested I use the PPF guys down the street, they send tons of cars there. I chatted with them and I’m going to do that. Since the dealer has the relationship, I’m going to ask that the dealer not touch the car in any way and if the PPF shop uncovers a problem, they take them at their word and address it. Strong plan but TBD
