What to expect in regards to US delivery timing

From what I understand no deliveries will occur until April 2023, with that being said, what should people expect who are 1 or 2 on the list with their dealer.

I'm #2 on the list at a decent sized Boston-area dealer with my order in the order bank. Should I expect to be in the first month of allocations or will it be more spread out than that?

Approximately April/May. It will all depend on how many your center is allocated. You should be in the first batch, but there is no guarantee.

I'm number 1 on my dealer's list and we haven't done anything yet. I don't think I "need" to have an order "in the bank" as people are posting. Nothing is happening until allocations occur. I suspect that's when my dealer will contact me to order.

Being that you are # 1 I would contact your center and request to have your specs placed within the order bank as BMW can make various determinations pertaining to allocations and production based on the inputted information.

Before the G80 launch day, a lot of dealerships received demos that people can drive. My local dealership had 3 demoes, manuals, autos, and sport buckets.

I am definitely seeing it person and driving it before I commit. Its probably going to drive very similar to G82 but with sharper turning due to the shorter wheelbase.

As you're in the "order bank", do you have any confirmation of this status (i.e. visible on my BMW app or otherwise)?

Those are the HEA cars and many centers spec them to a customer’s build if it is modifiable. Therefore when the cars arrives it is a sold unit(s) which results in no test drives.

When at status 47 - Order Bank, nothing will be visible via the My BMW app until you are assigned a production number. That will not occur until your center receives an allocation(s).

My dealer explained to me that they need to post customer requested orders into the "order bank". BMW NA can then see how many vehicles are desired and balance that with whatever milestones the dealer may need to meet to get their allocation.

HEA spec is the center launch vehicle which typically is used as a demo.

No clue what goes on in the PNW as I am in the southern region. Was it The Ultimate Drive event? The M Tour event?

You said no test drives, that is not true. A lot of prospective buyers got to test drive 3 different G8X at my local dealership.

I do not believe you are understanding what I am stating. If any BMW vehicle is tagged as a priority one then you will not test drive it as it is a pre-sold unit, a customer’s car.

Again, I have no clue what goes on in the PNW as I am in the southern region. Was it The Ultimate Drive event? The M Tour event?

You are not understand what I am stating, many dealerships in the US had demos for customers to drive, you said no test drives. It was not an event, it was demos provided to the dealership.

Sure I am. I am not disagreeing that dealers do not have demos or do test drives. I will state that out of the 385 U.S. centers the vast majority have not had enough new inventory to allow for a new vehicle demo/test drives due to supply constraints. The majority of inbound vehicles are priority one units (pre-sold). FYI, demos are totally at the discretion of the dealer principal.

He said that IF the dealer is able to configure their HEA then they configure it for their first allocation and it not available for demos. Ipso facto if they aren't able to configure it they could then be available for test drives.

That doesn't change the fact of my original post. There WILL be demos available, not for everyone but in a lot of the big markets.

No one can predict how many allocations will be received and the timing of them for a car that is 6 months away from release. Be patient, it is just a car.

We’ll see. Centers provide demos at their discretion and out of their own inventory. They are not provided by BMW of North America, this includes service loaners as well.

Yes, my local dealer said they will have demos again. Hopefully a lot of us will be able to try before we buy.
