It's amazing to me how many people bring this up when the Mexico plant is the newest and most technologically advanced state of the art facility BMW has in the world.

So the answer is absolutely not

My Tacoma TRD Pro was built in Texas, and the F&F is far better than my dad's Japanese model. Point of origin ain't what it was in the 80s.

Can you explain exactly why that would be any cause for concern?

Don't buy it so that others can get their cars sooner.

This is usually coupled with the incorrect belief that M cars are always built in Germany.

If one had any sense of economics, supply chain, and processes, such a thread wouldn't get raised. But alas it does, and always will.

Nope… the factory is mostly robotic. It is the BMW Group’s most advanced manufacturing facility to date. Furthermore the G42 recently received an accolade for its build quality from JD Power and they are only built at Plant Mexico.

I have confidence that a major corporation like BMW is capable enough to maintain quality regardless of location.

I remember back in 2001 when I ordered my e46, I was allocated a build from the South Africa plant. All the enthusiasts (back then it was the Edmunds forums that were active) would have this discussion all the time, even cancelling orders from SA because they only wanted a pure german BMW...LOL!! They wait was so long that IDGAF. That was the most reliable car I ever had even when compared to my Hondas and Acuras before that. I regret selling that car in 2012

I can assure you from a build quality standpoint, there aren't any issues as the Mexico plant is the most high tech and has the least amount of human touches. I also don't think there will be any financial repercussions if you decide to sell the car down the road, I honestly doubt any potential buyer will be looking at the door jamb to see where the car was manufactured. To most people, BMW is a German car, even the X series that are built stateside. I would venture well over 95% of people don't actually know where their own car is physically put together. You have to realize that this forum caters to such a small population of car enthusiasts that the stuff that some of us may care about simply isn't on the majorities radar.

They're normally built in Germany.

Some are built in other countries. Like South Africa.

Or my M coupe in USA.

In Germany are mostly build by Turks, Bosnians, Afghanistan's what ever they found, so really does not matter where is made, but how is made.
