Front License Plate Mount

Hi just got my 2022 230i. Thinking about putting on the front license plate as it is required here in Texas. Emailed sto-n-sho and carbonio and they don't have a mount for the new model. Anybody in the same boat?

Thanks

Me too, the dealer told me they drill holes in bumper. Tow hook mount is more than what I want to spend for this model.

You can ask them not to put it on. My dealer told me BMW doesn't put them on unless asked to do so.

I installed SlyBracket (driving in NY) - https://www.slybrackets.com/store/SL...LLE-p294852582

The caveat tho - I noticed only after the install that G42 actually has an active grille shutters at the bottom and inside these triangular sections. I know that a few other people from this forum also installed SlyBrakets, but I haven't heard back from them if they noticed any bad impact on car cooling and etc.

The last time I talked to my CA I told him I wasn't sure what I wanted to do about the front plate that is required to pass a vehicle inspection. He said don't worry about it. They will still put on an inspection sticker without the plate being mounted. Since the dealer is about 70 miles away, I really didn't want to pick up my car without the inspection sticker on and have to return once I install the plate. Still haven't decided how I want to go!

Well, my car is finally at the dealership. Will be getting it on Wednesday. My CA said they will NOT be applying the inspection sticker after all. Now my responsibility but they will reimburse me for my cost. ($35) So, I'll legally have 7 days to get an inspection. Still not sure what I'm going to do with the front plate mount. Concerned that what I might order for a mount will even get delivered to me within the 7 day timeframe! Was leaning towards the Slybracket but now that seems unavailable! May have to try to jury rig some sort of front mount that will pass inspection that I can remove without causing any damage. Buy myself some time! There is an inspection station about a mile away from me, so my jury rig won't have to be too solid.

Just zip tie it to the lower grill for the inspection

Has anyone thought about using L corner brackets, mounting under the kidney grill and above the lower grill on the flat area. Yes you have to drill holes but they are underneath where no one see them. Much better than drilling holes in the front of the bumper and a lot less costly than the tow hook plate.

I’m not drilling holes anywhere whether you can see them or not. Most would probably agree.

It’s an almost 60k car, spending $100 for a plate holder shouldn’t worry anyone.

Also my zip tie suggestion was because person above just needed a quick and simple solution to pass inspection and then they were removing the plate.

Possibly stupid question... Why blot out the license plate numbers on posted photos? It's not like anything nefarious may be done with such info... Or is there?

Yep, I like that idea. Very easy and cheap. Wonder if it will hold going 120+ mph.

I picked up my vehicle this morning. Thought the dealership was going to process the registration transfer then and there. Nope! I'll get my new registration in 5 to 7 days. No inspection possible until I get the formal documents. BMW provides a front plate mount. Think I may just say the hell with it and drill the two holes and mount the damn plate. I like symmetry. As such, the tow hook method doesn't work for me. I cannot foresee my removing the front plate and exposing the two small holes. More important things to spend my money on than worry about 2 little holes!

Just wondering, would the glue residue from the double side tap be bad for the paint itself or there shouldn't be any problem?

Well, since it's the holiday weekend and the cops will be everywhere, I decided to mount my front plate. Yes, .....get out your tissues, I drilled four holes and mounted my front plate! Looks fine to me! If our fellow M240i owners across the pond can live with their 2 foot long front plates, I can live with this!

This is what we use here in Germany.

Some remove the bumper and place magnets on the inside of the bumper and then have magnets on the back of the plate but the plate off to the side is never an option lol.

Texan here as well

Didn't put the front plate, but have it in my trunk in case I get pulled over.

Didn't have a front plate on my 16 228i either, and have never had any problems with getting pulled over or otherwise.

Fellow Texan in Austin, and bought a slybracket annnd it's still in the box. I'm driving withiut a front plate for 5 months, driven past local PD and State troopers. If I get pulled over, I'll say I was waiting for a mount and then go show proof it was installed. It'd a "fix it ticket".

Also, I really think the front plate thing is just for profiling people and an excuse to pull someone over. Cops see a $60k + sports car and probably think we're not being nefarious and leave us alone. But I bet if I was driving my highlander without a plate I'd be stopped immediately.
