Texas is experiencing its coldest temperatures in 32 years **No Politics**
In my local area. I'm sure by now you have all heard about that devastating pile up near us in Ft Worth involving over 100 vehicles and the death of several people when a portion of highway iced over.
But things are only getting worse... Snow expected tomorrow and then record low teen Temps all next week will make tons brutal around here. So glad I work from home. Stay safe out there folks. |

Wow. It’s going to be colder in Texas tomorrow than it will be in NYC. You guys must be in shock. Hope y’all aren’t on summer tires.
I posted that accident in the “It’s a Nor’easter thread. Tragic. Be safe. |

Let's trade!
We're actually in for a heatwave over the next few weeks. Been regularly below zero for the lows and mostly single digit highs for a couple of weeks now. Seriously, though, careful driving. All-seasons should be fine but summer tires will harden up and not have the same traction. Drive sane and leave space and you should be fine, though. Snow....depends on the tread depth. Disconnect your exterior garden hoses from the hose bibs when the temps drop below freezing.

is there anything, anywhere, more annoying than fahrenheit? Ok MM/DD/YY format is...but it's a close call.

I'm practically trapped at home for a week - none of my cars are safe to drive in this weather.

Last time it got frozen here my truck outside was all iced up.
I drove a car from my garage with extreme summer tires to work, it was nice and warm inside the car too.

Lived in New York before moving to Texas. This kind of weather is normal to me... Not going out because I washed my car recently and can't be bothered to do it again so soon.
There have been tons of small accidents over the past few days, too. Not just ice on highways that you should be cautious of. Stay safe if you are going to be out--walking or driving!

While I prefer metric because it’s most logical when it comes to measurement of size, Fahrenheit also follows a very logical progression to me where Celsius requires formulaic (albeit simple) conversion. Keep that shit in your corner.

It’s a pretty simple formula:
T(C) = (T(F) - 32) x 5/9 That pile up in Fort Worth was brutal, the videos were awful and bone chilling. I won’t be driving anywhere, even if you’re a good driver... there might be an idiot driving next to you. Stay safe everyone. |

Oh - I know that formula, but the post I was referring to said "Fahrenheit also follows a very logical progression to me where Celsius requires formulaic (albeit simple) conversion" so I was trying to figure out what conversion he meant.

As I related it to metric where each additional unit of measurement was equal and consistent thus making logical progression and sense. Fahrenheit works the same and is very easy to see the difference between freezing and say, the temperature of the normal human body (98.6) versus Celsius for those who don’t have a lifetime implementing its use can see it as non linear and strange. Hope that helps as you asked for the formula and knew it so I can’t tell if you’re being cheeky to win or truly seeking my perspective |

I have heard some refer to F in this form, 70F is like 70% hot vs say 40F being 40% hot. Celsius is something you have to live with to figure out.

Certainly in context. To further this idea, when someone states temperature in Fahrenheit do you instinctually know to what varying degree the temperature is?

In Celsius, 0 is freezing. 100 is boiling. And then for daily temps, 0 is once again freezing, 10 is cold. 20 is mild. 30 is warm. 40 is hot. 50 is really hot. Easy enough to deal with. |

After 10 years of living here I do. For the first while, I had to convert everything back to Celsius to get an idea of what it related to.
