Bad Fuel Injectors/Fuel in Oil
So after 3 tries I finally got my dealership to agree to check my fuel injectors and the injector at cylinder 1 was indeed bad. I was having rough starts and black smoke coming from the tailpipe for months, but the car wasn’t throwing any codes so BMW wouldn’t approve any repairs.
The mechanic mentioned during the two previous visits that my oil levels were high. I said I haven’t touched them. I now know it’s because the injectors were leaking fuel into the cylinder and down into the engine oil. This was most likely happening for roughly 3k miles since BMW wouldn’t work on the car without any codes. I’m just wondering if I should be throwing a fit here or if this isn’t a big deal? They are definitely trying to minimize it. Thoughts? |

Well good on you for pushing them and not backing down. Does the car drive any different? Were you getting stuttering or anything while driving?

Fuel dilution of oil is bad. Depending on how much fuel was in the oil it could lead to premature wear of components that are lubricated by engine oil.
Recommend you talk to a manager and work with them to do the following.

I’m not sure if the car drives any differently because this has been happening since the car was pretty much new. I only know the car one way. |

Take it up with the manager and if they're not helpful escalate it with BWM NA. |

100% this. Even if the test come back "good", this is still indeed "not good. How much extra wear was done or will this become an issue down the road when you don't have a warranty?

They better check for cylinder scoring as well. The fuel strips the oil off the cylinder walls |

Yeah and this is happening to a fair amount of people. I know of multiple owners who have had stumbling start/long crabm issues that their dealerships “can’t figure out.” Seems fairly common in M3/M4 as well.
