In 2022, an E30 M3 is totally obsolete since besides it's nimble, it's nothing what the G87 will offer you with its much wider range of abilities. Or is there anybody here seriously believing that the E30 eclipses the G87?
Put a well maintained e30 M3, with a G80, a trio of F87s (OG and competition), a couple e34s, a spare e46 or two, etc. and turn them loose on a typical mountain or coastal twisty road (as our club frequently does) and I challenge you to tell or show me how the e30 (m3 or even 325i or iS) is obsolete in any real world way. Heck, we often have a guy in a 1997 e36 M3 out in front and it's hard to keep up!

On a high speed track, or in a straight line, yes. Or in the realm of automatic this or electronic that, yes.

But not as a drivers car.
Yeah e36 is the pinnacle if you ask me.
240x would destroy it in any situation
Except for like everything that makes a bmw not a Nissan 🙄..

Wait you don't mean a m240 do you😂
Mlite 😂
Mlite on steering feel, throttle response, and naturally aspirated goodness😂
💯 all of the above with E36 in the rear view 😆
The faster I can't see that narrow little rear end the better😎
Well it's a 2 series :

So, The engine......anyone know if it will have the same turbochargers that the M3/4 have, or will it have the smaller turbochargers on the S58 in the Alpina B3?

GOOD, because it shouldn't need a low end torque improvement. Especially if only RWD.

I owned an F87 M2 and now own a G82 M4 manual. The M4 in manual is better in every way…power, handling, driving dynamics, comfort, seats, braking.

The new M2 with the S58 will be awesome if it's not detuned too much.

+1 I share the exact same thoughts having gone from manual M2 to Manual G80 M3.

How is the gear changing in terms of feel? I only drove a G80 manual for a 4-5 min test drive couldn't make it past 3rd. I had SSK on my F87, wondering if it will be needed for G87.

The big issue with all the current manual M cars is that ridiculous clutch delay valve. Gearing wise the transmission is great and it's primarily 1-2 shift that the CDV can make the car feel strange.

I'll wait until after the warranty is up and put in a stronger aftermarket clutch, CDV delete mod, tune (if flash tune is available), downpipes all at the same time.

Funny…. I have an E46 330i with the CDV delete
I know how clean shifts are in the car.
But my G80 does not have delay at all with the CDV you describe…… in fact it's smooth as butter.
so I guess my shifting is more relaxed these days.
🤷🏻

Performance class
K= Lowest
U= Lower
M=Medium
O=Upper(standard)
T=Top

S= Super
  • The base G87 for EU and US markets has a confirmed power output of 338kW / 453hp. This makes sense since it's getting a detuned S58 which produces 20hp less than its big brothers, but it doesn't explain the 'T' engine designation.

  • The base G80/2 get the S58O engine which outputs 338kW /473hp. The G80/2 Competition models get the S58T engine which outputs 375kW / 503hp.

System error or sign of things to come?

Supporting PDFs
It's not a system error whatsoever, it's got the S58B30T0 in it.

Just not sure what the fuss is about as the X3/X4 M LCI and X3/X4 M Competition LCI use the same engine.

It's only the M3/4 6MT that are powered by the S58B30O0.
