Q&A w///M: More colors coming for the G87 later this year and hints of more variants

Another great interview by Horatiu Boeriu of BMWBLOG asking all the questions we want answers to.
  • Additional colors coming later this year
  • No individual for the M2
  • Hints of more G87 variants to come
Start watching @21m.

Good news.

Since I am high on dealers lists (6th and 8th). I might have to wait until next year for my build. More color options sounds great. There would be also a chance to have lower finance rate and time to save for bigger down payment by then.

yup, this toy would definitely look aesthetically much better with darker accented colours like tanzanite blue metallic , portimao blue , etc

What is the love for blue (not directed at you specifically but I see a lot of people wanting other colors of blue)? Personally, wouldn't mind to have no shades of blue offered. Just my two pennies...

darker accented blues like tanzanite and portimao was just an example that immediately came to my mind as my message was directed to all the awesome darker colours in BMW's available palette.

I hear you. Its an M car, it needs its own "stand out color" just not ZB...

I LOVE deep blues. Not just in cars, but all things.

So give me Portimao, give me Leguna, give me Lemans. I'll take any of them. I'll take your Montegos, your Monacos. Whatever you got.

I'm 100% Blue Crue, all the way. I love how they shift color in the sun. Reminds me of the sea (I'm ex Navy).

Where did you get two years from? Not sure how you missed the very first bullet point.

Since they share the same factory, I believe there is a high chance that the next sets of additional colors will come from the now existing m340i options ?

Uh, it's pretty simple. If new colors are going to become available at the end of THIS YEAR, those cars likely won't be delivered for another 18-24 months from today - unless production aggressively ramps up.

production already ramped up; manufacturing and logistics issues are not in the same bad state now as was past the covid era in 2022 .
for example now the m240is from San Potosi can be delivered to North America in like 2-3 months wait time from ordering to delivery compared to 6-8-9-10 months wait times in the 2021-2022s.

M2s will ramp up even much more than now until the mid of this autumn I predict.
this is for USA and Canada I am speaking of ofc.

That's if allocations are available, which right now are very slowly trickling down. Some dealership have received no allocations beyond their HEAs.

I've given up understanding how BMW chooses colors. It seems to some dark ritual where bean counters and market analysts throw chicken guts onto the hood of a sacred 2002, and then decree the will of the Paint Gods.

Or maybe they'll use M340i colors, that works too.

TR for me, since red is my second favorite color. While I think ZB is fine, there's a rule in my house that Thou Shalt Not Wear UNC Colors. One guess where my wife went to college, lol.

The SLP plant doesn't have dedicated M Individual paint booths to the best of public knowledge. I'm surprised that ZB is a no-cost color.
