That theory is a little too close for comfort.

What is the secret? Can’t get the gf or kids to be properly motivated to find the safe spots.

It is a shame that we even have to do these kinds of things and more unfortunate there are others out there who don't give a flying F**K about anyone but themselves. Having commons sense, decency and respect for others, PLUS some basics driving skills and courtesies would make parking lots much easier to navigate.
Just my 2 cents

You are forgetting about the morons who design parking lots...its as if they design them to invite accidents and damage.

I travel internationally a lot and in Europe, South America and Asia the parking spaces tend to be much smaller - often a tight fit and challenging to park.

Yet, almost no one bangs/dings another car. People take care of their cars and respect other cars. You don’t see cars with trash and food wrappers inside even in the poorest areas.

I feel like only in America people think of cars as disposable. They toss empty bottles, partially eaten food, kids spilled chocolate milk and cheerios all over their car. And they could care less if they smash their door on another car.

So yes - an attitude problem for sure.

On a lighter note - I hit 1,000 miles and no dings on my doors. Knock on carbon.

America is a master class in consumerism. We love to use and then toss things away to replace with the next version.

What's even more infuriating with cars getting door dings or scrapes from parking lot terrorism, is the mindset that these things just happen; as if there is a collective "ok" in some of the population that just expects they are going to sometimes damage others cars, and that their cars will also get damaged. I do NOT accept this mindset and do NOT understand how lots of people think this way. I always try to see things from others' perspectives but I struggle with this one.

Maybe the parking lot designers are actually the insurance companies, creating more "reasons" to raise premiums. JK. I'm totally not a consiracy theorist.

Related: I've been annoyed with the Chevy cars of late. Seems that all of their cars (for several model years) have a thing where when someone unlocks the car, the reverse lights are on (for safety?) without having any of the others exterior lights on.

Why would they choose to make a stationary car with nobody in it look EXACTLY like a car that is about reverse out of their parking spot?

And with what others mentioned about people paying less attention, perhaps not even caring, etc. those of us who see a car with just the reverse lights on are assuming they are coming out and don't see us, causing us to stop our car unnecessarily, just in case.

Just annoying, more than anything.
