Struggling with decision, M2 w/ Carbon seats vs M4
Hey all,
I'm struggling a bit, my local dealer has a M2 with carbon pack, fully loaded, manual. It's perfect! My only concern are the carbon seats, at my height/weight (6"0 ~ 230 lbs), and I have recurring back problems occasionally. They fit really tight, and they were not painful during test drive, but it was fairly short. Another option is waiting for a manual M4 with regular seats coming in a few weeks. I think the M2 with that spec is a more special than the M4, and the way the M2 is spec'ed will be probably more fun for me to drive, and also more desirable in the future. I'm trying to convince myself to go with the M2. If the buckets are really unbearable, I could swap them with regular ones, and either store the buckets to put back later, or do a trade. I've done a few searches and it's my conclusion from what I've read so far, but I need to make a decision fast before it's gone. It seems there are more of you who regret not getting the carbon bucket seats than the other way around. Any additional input from you guys to help me in my decision would be great. Plus I usually really enjoy these types of threads at the risk of rehashing some previously made points. Thanks! |

Go m2. Because needs an $85k Camaro? If the seats don't work out, people will be lined up to trade you their stock units.

Looks like you have a M2 CS now? The just get the M2 with the carbon seats, and I am assuming you will drive another car as your daily and this will be your fun car? If it’s going to be the daily. Just order a M2 without the seats and wait. You wont want to fight comfort on the daily, but for a fun car, a little bit of sacrifice is ok.
When you tight, is it because of a little extra padding on you, or is it hip bone on carbon fiber? If a little extra padding you can work on that over time. if it’s just your frame…. Then no changing that |

Personally I would have spec'd them if they didn't have that nut rocker but I'm also happy to save the $$ Funny enough was just watching a review with a focus on the seats Seat specific review starts at 8:00 it seems when it's linked in forum it doesn't retain the time reference URL "These seats look cool... but this bolster right here, what that's gonna do is that's gonna violate you... probably great for track use but for daily driving..." Both reviewers were 5'9 and 6'4 and neither really cared for the seats it seemed. Last edited by clydefrog; 08-25-2023 at 09:52 PM.. |

If your back pain is related to disc issues wait for the m4, as you will need the extra cushion. If it is sciatic related get the m2 and a theragun for your piriformis. I have reoccurring sciatic issues, but decent posture and I can sit in the m buckets all day.

I personally wouldn’t buy the M2 without the buckets, the sport seats look so boring. But if you can’t fit in them it’s absolutely not worth it

The M2 would be weekend car and I work from home, so probably around 200-300 miles a month max, but not daily, I have an X3M for longer drives and for drives with the wife and doggy. I can fit in the carbon buckets, but they are tight, especially the back. It's a weird feeling of not being to shift around in the seat a bit. Maybe just something everyone has to get used to. I actually didn't mind the middle part at the bottom of the seat, I thought it would be more annoying. Any additional motivation helps! Quote:
The fact that I can always swap the seats puts my mind at ease. I might regret not trying it at least. I'm now leaning more toward buying it. I'll confirm later either way. Thanks again! |

I won't take this car for long drives, and if it becomes really a big issue, I could always swap the seats down the road. |

I'm 5'9" and a full 250 pounds. Full. Any day. I'm as fat as I'm comfortable with and not happy about it. But, I have a FRACTURE at L4-L5. I limp like Quasimodo. I require a rollator for long walks. I dump into either my M5 CS for track duty, and I'm in HEAVEN. Holds me still so the vertebrae don't shift. I haven't driven my girlfriends M3 CS on track yet, but on road for at least an hour. Problems = zero. It's tight, sure. I'm fat. My "big boy" recaros in my GT-R were tight too. Extra padding going around the corner, I says. Oh, and unless I'm stupid, I can't get the online configurator to allow the carbon seats. I've seen pictures in the promotionals, but is this a dealer only option? Shawn |

Also, the carbon buckets eliminate the seat heating? The same seat is heated in the M5 CS and the M3 CS. WHY? Or is the above review wrong?

All right, I did it guys. After a few short trips I'm already starting to get used to the seats. No regrets so far! Just a few early first day pictures. I'll report more on how things go over time.
Thanks for all your input everyone! |

You're good! I saw it in the climate control screen menu, I can take a pic next time I'm in the car. It's also listed in the options list "Heated front seats".
