License Mount that is not in tow hook

Hi all -

I'm in a state that requires a front license plate unfortunately. I really don't want to do a tow hook mount and would love to not have to drill screws in the front of the car. Anyone have any recs on some products to check out?

Disclaimer: My car does have active cruise control BTW!

Thanks all!

Just out of curiosity, why not a tow hook mount?

Symmetry... It's not my decision (long story... went into the car with my dad and he hates tow hook mounts). Just exploring my options if I can't convince him otherwise.

Fair enough! I don't LOVE them either, I just prefer them to other options.

Wish the plate can sit up higher. Like in center of the bottom grill.. from top to bottom.

Do you get harassed for no front plate in California? I’ve gotten a couple tickets when I lived in LA for no front plate. Never ran into any other issues with no front plate in California and I’ve not had one on a car in 20+ years.

I live in LA and have issues here with no front plate just as you did.

I have this one on my G87
https://carbonio.com/products/bmw-m2...b6f01cd3&_ss=r

I like it because it doesn't sit too low or too high. It's centered. And the plate can rest lightly on the car without damaging the paint with the included license plate pads to create additional support/tension while driving. I also have mine on top of ppf.

I've gotten cited for it only when I ran a parking meter a bit longer. It was like +$20. I haven't been hassled for it otherwise

FYI: Saw some comments at a Porsche forum about people having some problems installing it over PPF. Some said it became loose over time.

The one thing about it mounted low is it blocks some of the radiator from stones.

Can you take a picture of how you mounted this? I just got it and the instructions aren’t that great.

I got the Slybracket plate holder.. easy enough to install and is solidly mounted. I did have to put foam tape where the bracket hooks to the front grill so it won't scratch the grill(if that makes sense). I'm from Canada so it was pricey.. shipping and brokerage fees. Also I don't think this will work with Automatic M2s cause it will block the front radar? I was going to go with the Stow N Show but I intend to get a front lip and I don't think the Sto N Show will work with a front lip.

Is it possible to install the holder upside down so the license plate is not hanging downwards and blocking the lower radiator/ACC radar, but rather, holding upwards near where the original mounting location would be as if you were drilling and installing the OEM bracket?
