Here are some photos before and after. This is using the OEM badge I bought from bmwautopartswholesale.com (Kuni BMW)

Badge was $64 with shipping to SoCal.

Hey guys! Been keeping an eyes on this thread, thought maybe if we can help everyone with a group buy.

Sure we can get the price down a bit for everyone as we buy these badges in quite a large quantity from bmw lately.

Let me know

Already have the rear black badge, but would love a black one for the front grill!

Unfortunately, none available. You would have to remove yours or buy a replacement and paint/clearcoat yourself. I believe someone here tried and it didn't go well but would have to search for the post for details.

EDIT: edited to correct, AUTOID offers as posted below.

Autoid is offering black front emblems for $72, but their website says out of stock. I attempted to paint the front emblem and the paint didn't stick even after a lot of prep - which was odd. I've painted a lot of emblems on my cars over the years with great success, including the grille emblem on my wife's X3MC, but not this time.

Did you previously post about the issues with painting the G87 front badge? If so, that is what I am recalling as the problems you described above are what I remember from the post.

Didn't know AUTOID offered it. Will have to check it out (haven't seen anyone here post about it yet).

Someone mentioned the AutoID badge in another thread. Jack@AUTOID any information on if these will be available?

Some metals/alloys are highly resistant to coating even with extensive preparation.

I attempted to paint the rear badge with a solvent, not waterborne, coating as generally speaking they are superior. It smeared and wouldn’t cover properly.

Surface preparation is the most important factor in any coating activity but I was unwilling to use sandpaper and potentially ruin the badge.

Bought a black badge instead. YMMV

I'm pretty sure the emblems are just plastic but the front M2 emblem has some sort of coating on it that didn't let the paint adhere, even after a light sanding & prep. The X3 M in my wife's grille was easy to paint & still looks great 6k mi later.

Thanks, my failed attempt makes more sense now.

I assumed it was white metal or a similar cheap alloy as it wasn’t removed for a closer inspection.

I bought my badge from Kuni BMW (bmwautopartswholesale.com) and it was around 64 dollars with shipping to SoCal. Try this if the group buy ended or never happened

I looked at the black M2 badge on eBay and it doesn't look right, the "2" looks like it's the E9X style

You have to find the right one on ebay, i.e., not from China. The F87 emblem looks pretty much identical to the G87 emblem for 1/2 the price

Looks good. Nobody is going to notice the difference & it's 1/2 the price of the G87 emblem

I didn't see the point in spending that much to import a black badge to Germany, so I got a 20 Euro cheapy off Aliexpress. Must have ordered the larger "old" one, but since it's black it blends in. If it fades, I might end up getting the smaller one.

How was the install for the black rear badge? was it easy and did you prep the paint with anything before sticking on the new badge?
